Buying property - Convert electric to gas central with grant?

Looking at buying a property that has the heating currently operate from a ventilated heating system. If i were to replace with gas central heating, would this be eligible to receive money from the government green energy grant? I wouldn't be able to finance it myself and i know we wouldn't put up with a ventilated heating system for very long, so saving and doing further down the line doesn't seem like an option for us.

I don't know the specifics but if the country is moving away from gas boilers I doubt you will get a grant to fit a gas boiler and pipingAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......1

Ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps and that kind of thing are being promoted for the future. There have been moves to outlaw installation of gas boilers in new builds but I don't think anything has made it into policy yet. You certainly won't get a green energy grant for putting in gas central heating, as that is not at all green. These are the types of heating that get grants (according to the government website):Air source heat pumpsGround source heat pumpsWood boilersWood pellet stoves with back boilerSolar water heating0

The flat I rent is off gas and there was a scheme (not the green energy one) a few years ago to convert as many electric systems as possible in the area. The two options under the scheme were air source and oil. It all fell through because there wasn't enough space outside to have the air flow units and there wasn't a secure space to hold an oil tank. Definitely consider the outside space available before you make a decision.1

I don’t know about the green energy grant - I think the full details won’t be released until September by the gov.But have you checked if there is gas supply in the area?
My parents live in a house they bought brand new in the 1970’s that has warm air heating and there is no gas on the whole estate. They were told warm air heating was the future back then in the 1970’s!So they have no option but to use the warm air heating and electric heaters. So very expensive electric bills so I grew up in a very cold house.0 -
It might be - check the Energy Saving Trust website. There can also be help with getting a gas supply put in, if it's already in the street but not to your house.
However, usually home-owners have to have lived in the house for over a year and be receiving certain benefits to be eligible for a grant. The grant may also not cover the full cost.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
