Tui charging £3070 to move Holiday

I will try keep this short. I rang Tui last week regarding our holiday to Turkey on 3rd Sep, we need to move it as we WERE getting married in Turkey ( wedding not with Tui) and cannot now as most of our guests holidays were cancelled by Tui, the lady I spoke to said, it will just cost £50 per person to move package holiday, she said just ring back with new dates. I rang back this week to be told it would cost £3070 to move this holiday. This is not cost added onto holiday, £3070 was just to move the holiday from this year to next year. Could this be correct?

Yes it is sadly. It’s treated in line with their cancellation fees so I would expect it to be around the price quoted. Anything under 70 days travel becomes much more expensive to amend!

Tui cannot control third party costs. If fewer people are travelling. Then rates will rise to cover fixed costs. Likewise exchange rate movements come into play.

The fact you were getting married is irrelevant to TUI, you are just a normal customer being charged a cancellation fee in line with their normal terms and conditions.

Ouch...harsh but think the phone operator got it wrong; if you wish to move your travel date later than planned it is treated as a cancellation.     I can understand how devastated you are but if it was me I would not cancel, I would keep it and if it all goes ahead then go and enjoy your holiday (one thing you will know for sure if you still fancy getting married there at some point)
Alternatively, I believe you can still transfer the holiday into different names for a nominal amount  if you have any parents, siblings, cousins etc who might still fancy going?

The £50 amendment fee is for things like change of hotel, flights times and airport etc. not for booking a completely new holiday next year. Presumably this was what the person at TUI thought you were trying to amend whe you first phoned.

TUI will allow you to amend the booking to another day for £50pp as long as you are more than 70 days away from travel.

Phone operator made a mistake I think - because you’re so close to travel it won’t be £50 each. 

I’d just go and enjoy your holiday
