O/S Daily Saturday 1 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Cooler this morning although our bedroom is like a sauna - hence why we are both out of bed at this ridiculous hour - we've opened the back door and the air is much cooler and fresher - DH said his van temperature yesterday was 37 degrees, I don't mind the heat as long as I don't have to do anything. It's forecast to be a much more comfortable 24 degrees today.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/beans/salad, coleslaw for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and salad. I'll be making lasagna later this morning for tonight's dinner, we're going to check on DH's grandad this afternoon and so having something ready to put in the oven will be a great help in case we're late getting back.
I have a couple of chores I want to get done this morning so will crack on with those in a while.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for the start NMlC.Sunny again here, it was hot yesterday., and Dh spent a good deal of the day outside cutting the hedge a bit lower - the neighbours will be sick of him buzzing away with the cutter thing.I've been up since ridiculous o' clock, I've had the usual bad night, wish i could sleep past 3am, I'm worn out.Yesterday I visited a couple of friends, I'm quite the social butterfly - it was nice to be in someone else's house.Today it'll just be housework and a bit of shopping. Dh will finish the hedge, and the garden needs a major tidy. That will probably get done tomorrow.Hope everyone has a good Saturday, take care folks14

Good morning everyone and Pinch Punch first day of the Month
I am another one who didn't sleep well but I got up at 5.30 with lots of energy so I have put our dinner on cooking so I can relax this evening. I was up chopping onions and stirring in spices for a chicken, sweet potato and butternut squash tagine and now it is simmering away for the next hour. It smells lovely and must be driving the dogs mad as they haven't had their breakfast yet.
I had a very trying day yesterday as my friend wanted to come and see me. She is exhausting company at the best of times but when she is a bit high from her bipolar it is twice as tiring. She came at 10am and her son didn't pick her up until 3.30! I think he relished the opportunity to have some time away from her but it was too much. We had the grandchildren staying as well as their stepdad is being very manipulative and my Jemima didn't want the kids to stay with him while she is at work. She looks so tired and stressed as any time he doesn't get his way he threatens suicide and she keeps having to ring the police. I just want to keep her and the children safe and so they will be spending a lot of time here in the summer holidays.
The grandchildren are back here this afternoon until 9.30pm as Jemima had to do some extra hours at work to make up for the time she spent running around after her husband. Her work are very supportive which is great but she worries about being unprofessional and she struggles herself with depression and anxiety. I just want to wrap her up in a big cwtch but we are helping her out as much as we can. I am going to do some baking with my grandson as he wants to make peanut butter cookies and then I am going to try my best not to eat them all.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning 😉👋
August has come round so quickly. It's a bank holiday weekend here though it doesn't feel any different.
My hair is cut, I feel both scalped and brilliant. It's so strange to have short hair after all this time. The hairdresser made short shrift of my grey locks. My jacket was put in a black bin liner which they gave me when I left. 🤣. Think I'll save it for the next time like a good MSEr. 😀
Yesterday was beautifully hot and sunny until late afternoon when huge waves of thunder rolled across the sky before a kind of monsoon rain fell. Then it dried up. Seems warm already today.I'll be doing the usual Saturday shopping soon.DUMPLING - such energy is great. I can almost smell your cooking too.Now I wish everyone a very happy Saturday.13 -
Dumpling, I hope Jemima can get her ex sorted, why do men behave like this (I know it's a generalisation but it is usually men who try to control women).
We got back safely last night and I'm looking forward to a quiet day - I'll take Ziggy for a walk early and pick up a parcel at the sorting office. They have changed their hours so they are only open 7-9 on weekdays and till 11 on Saturdays. It doesn't make sense to me because they'll have lots of people turning up a the same time. Something with salad for dinner tonight.
I hope things don't get too bad again because Laura and Brian want to go to Glasgow next week to see his mum. They were supposed to go up at the beginning of April but of course couldn't so she hasn't seen Esben since he was 2 weeks old.14 -
Morning All
Looks bright enough this morning, it was warm yesterday but not as hot as forecast nor as hot as a lot of you had but was nice to see the sunshine. We had a thunder storm about 6 last night, didn't last too long but there was monsoon rain for a while. Thankfully I got home just in time to get the washing in.
Bedding in the WM as we speak, hoping that will be dry by lunchtime and I can put it back on the bed - saves folding and putting it away.
DD and Sophie are coming for lunch then we are going to walk along to a friends house (the one who broke her hip), we usually have a good laugh and chat. Looking forward to a walk, haven't been for a few days. There's the allotment to visit first, I'm expecting more peas!
Yesterday's meal was lovely, the food was ok, nothing special but tasty all the same. The service was first class and everyone was well spaced apart. The city had just enough people in to make it feel comfortable and it felt good to be out and about although I think that will do for now!
Hope you got on ok yesterday RR.
Have a happy Saturday, take care. XX13 -

Morning all
Looks like another hot day here but not as hot as yesterday which was unbearable at times my poor OH was working on a roof in it and came home exhausted and very hot and bothered, a cold beer in the garden under the umbrella soon sorted him out.
We got on ok yesterday, (thanks Camelot) evil ex was not there so we had the house to ourselves, but it was filthy and really stunk of fags and drugsthere was drug paraphernalia laying around everywhere, it was quite embarrassing but the estate agent knew we didn't live there anymore, they have priced the house quite well and if it sells dd will make a small profit from it, I just hope the ex agrees to the sale and we dont have to take him to court.
I have a wash on the go and another to go in after will hang them out, the kitchen needs cleaning and the house needs a quick hoover through.
We will get out on our bikes later for a good ride and I think its pastry pizza for dinner with salad.
Have good days all xx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I am a late comer this morning but I do have a note! I decided to get the early bus (8.45) into town again. Most shops still not opening until 10.00 so very quiet and easy to keep apart from other folk. Just a quick browse of Poundland, Savers and the bargain grocery shop and back up on the 9.40 bus. Only 3 on it so we were able to sit well apart and shout to each other! I picked up a few bits here and there then back home to hibernation. I still feel bitter about the new restrictions we in the north had thrust on us. And whose idea was it that family could not visit your home or garden but you could meet them in a park or go to a restaurant with them (as long as part of their bubble) Oh well, as before, all this will pass, eventually!
The highlight of my day is a grocery delivery between 12 and 2.00. An E mail has already told me no strawberries which I am a bit miffed about. Is everybody else still wiping their shopping delivery down? I am but I must confess I am not doing it quite as thoroughly as I used to.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. RR pleased yesterday went as well as it could. I hope the evil one cleans it up a bit before the viewing begins. Especially the drug paraphernalia. Take care all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
TA, I stopped wiping the shopping down a couple of weeks ago, it just got to be too much of a chore. I forgot to say we went into Skipton on Wednesday and the market was on. They had closed the High Street to vehicles so people were able to avoid one another easily and the stalls were facing the road rather than the pavement. There were quite a few stalls I hadn't seen before as well. I hope theey continue keeping the road closed it made a big difference.12

Morning all, another sleepless night
I can't seem to actually get to sleep in the first place...... too much going on in my head, which is very unusual as it's normally full of air
I did spent a few hours checking my stores and looking at which foods I need to replace and also add to. Oh I've got to get a life !! I wasn't even able to have a lie in this morning as the scaffolders arrived over the road to take down their poles. Oh well an early night it is then.
Gosh it was hot yesterday, even when it clouded over it soon sapped my energy, but it is much cooler today. We had a shower overnight and more are forecast for today, however it's windy and the sun is shining at present. DD was coming to paint the shed today but we're not sure about the weather, so that has been moved to tomorrow. Today I shall just wander about aimlessly and if I do anything productive that will be a bonusI'm not looking for something to do, that's for sure.
We've had a buzzard sitting in our trees this morning, it was probably looking for another takeaway meal as I think it had a B 52 for breakfast yesterday ( there were a lot of feathers in the garden) but I believe he was out of luck today. It's not the first time they have visited our garden, I found one just happily sitting on the lawn once. Didn't realise how big they were !Tea tonight will be a freezer dip and I will keep the gammon and garden spuds for tomorrow.RedRuby glad that you had no argy-bargy yesterday and I hope the house sells very soon.Dumpling huge cwtches for you and Jemima. I now want to make peanut butter biscuits too, thanks for that idea.ILC enjoy your hair cut.MeanMarie I'm letting my hair grow and I'm going grey instead of colouring it.Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14
