Starlingbank has taken my money

Dear Peter

Information has come to light which is of concern to Starling Bank, as such we are closing your account.

Under the terms and conditions of your account, we can withdraw banking facilities by giving you notice in writing, and in-line with company policy, we don't elaborate further on how we've reached this decision.

Your account has now been closed

The remaining balance of £224.62 will be retained by Starling Bank

We can’t provide any further information on this decision and unfortunately our customer service team will be unable to provide any further clarification on this matter.

Thank you for your co-operation.

This is nothing to do with mony laundering under the POC act.
They say i cannot show where the money originates from so they are retaining it and closing my account

They will be investigating and probably where the money has come from, if the sender was committing an offence. Just wait for now for them to investigate

Where have said that the original sum of money originated from?  Have you subsequently passed some of this money on?

    Hi Shel
They are not investigating, my account has been closed my app is completely blank, i have no information on it, no account number, no sorting code, no balance, no history.
They do not have any branches so you have to deal with them by email or on the app.

Looks to me that the investigation has been completed, the result being the account closed down and the monies retained - presumably they were sourced from someone dodgy.

OP check the CRA's for CIFAS markers - you may find opening a new account problematic.

They wanted paperwork for bacs payments that were 10 months old, i could only provide some of the paperwork.

Where did the money come from? You don't have to post the answer here, but you should have told Starling when they first asked. It seems it's now too late.

If you believe you were wronged, you need to start complaining formally. https://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumers/how-to-complain

NB. If your actual name is Peter Cohen, you should change your MSE user name.

Sounds as they've been informed of connections to other parties.

    £200
i thought they would just look at this number
It should not be a big number to a bank
Lets be honest if they gave it to a charity that would be fine

I used "connections" as not suggesting that you are in the wrong. However the association with another party or parties is sufficient for you not to be welcome as a customer of the bank. There's been a lot of intelligence gleaned recently that's now being fed out to the banks. You may yet receive the money in the account. Once enquiries are completed.

I hope this account isnt your only bank account and you have a second account to use.
Definitely check CIFAS and put a complaint in.
