Last minute premium bond purchase by bank transfer

If I make a bank transfer to buy premium bonds today, does anyone know if they will be there in time to be eligible for the September 1st draw?

Before anyone comments to that effect, I know we shouldn’t have left it to the last minute!

It’s for my son, who has other premium bonds but doesn’t have an NS&I account. We’ve just tried to register for an account but the website just says it’s not possible at the moment. Online chat isn’t available as they’re too busy.

I agree with the debit card
The bank transfer might not go through in time for September draw
I called up earlier this month using my debit card and it was very easy, money in account faster than bank transfer

We would but you need to log in to do that but he doesn’t have an NS&I account, and it won’t let us set one up. I don’t know if they’ve stopped new accounts with so many people saving with them.

He does have a premium bond holder number, although it dates back from before he was 16.

Ah, so you can pay by debit card on the phone then. Thanks.

I have made two bank transfer purchases this week. On both occasions, the bond purchase was completed the day after the bank transfer was sent (according to the date on my bond record).

As such, a bank transfer today would more than likely fail to complete in time to be eligible for September's draw.

I do not know about debit card purchases, so will go with the advice of other posters that that may be the most viable solution this time.

    Good luck.

I did a debit card purchase of bonds today and it confirmed they would be in the September draw.

Thanks. On that basis, a bank transfer is unlikely to have made it in time for the September draw. In the end my son was too busy with work to phone them to make a debit card payment, so he’ll have to sort it out this month instead.

Ah, so NOW it would be appropriate to point out not to leave it to the last minute this month  :D:D
And I'm going to have a private bet with myself that he will in fact, do so.
As an experiment, dont nag him to do it , and post back when he buys

You’ll win that bet! No hope whatsoever that he’ll do it without prompting. What I will say for him is that he is very good with his money and he is saving hard to buy a house, so it could be a lot worse.

Don't buy PBs on the last day of the month because you get an email the next day saying you have a new message from NS&I on the 1st of the month and get very excited 🤣🤣😭
