Car insurance with points

Hi, I  received 6 points for speeding just over two years ago (June), although my car insurance renews each May. Therefore, when it comes around to renewing my insurance next May I will still have those 6 points on my licence which will then be cleared only one month later. I have a feeling that the cost of my insurance will be high as i'll still have the points, only for them to come off my licence a month later. I am aware that you have to declare any points for 5 years. Is it worth buying a 'stop gap' insurance for a month until the points tick over the 3 year period and hopefully the regular cost will be less.

You are unlikely to find that there is a big difference in the cost of insurance between an offence that is 3 years old, and one that is 2 years and 11 months old. It will be more of a gradual decrease until it stops being declarable after 5 years. So it's unlikely that you'll find it's worth the cost of a cancellation fee on an annual policy, or the very high cost of a 1 month policy this time around. 

It might be worth contemplating in 2 years time, as there probably is a significant difference between declaring a 4 and a bit year old speeding offence, and not declaring one at all.
