O/S Daily Friday 31 July 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day warm already.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish goujons with pasta in a creamy tomato sauce, I had baked fish with the pasta. Tonight will be something and chips.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted and had contact from my nail tech and have an appointment for next week.
I'm hoping that I can be organised enough that I'll be menu and food prepping several meals in advance - which is something I tried a couple of weeks ago and it makes the week day dinners so much easier, especially on my work days. So I'm trying to be more organised and making sure I have what is needed.
I'll also be stripping our bed and getting the bed linen dried on the line.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks NMLC. It does make life easier to have meals organised ahead of time, especially if you're working. It's sunny here, and the forecast is good, then tomorrow it's supposed to be grey skies and showers again.I'm visiting a couple of friends today, first time since before lockdown, it'll be strange going into someone's house.I've got a load of washing in, might as well make the most of the good weather, and there's another load waiting.Yesterday I just did jobs round the house, and nipped out to the shops for a few things, I can walk to the main street of our little town, so that is handy. I noticed another charity shop looked as if it might re open soon, the lights were on, and there was a vacuum cleaner in the middle of the floor, so it's looking hopeful. That's about it for today - hope everyone has a good Friday, take care folks.16

Good morning folks. The day may well be sunny. 😎 It'll certainly start well with my first hair appointment in six months. To add to the joy it seems that dentists will be accepting a wider range of patients from sometime in August. 😀 Until now it's been emergencies only so my broken front tooth has been at the back of the queue.Yesterday I did my first Zoom sessions to ID a couple of our volunteers for their PVG checks. Both were very brief but enjoyable.DM is enjoying doing her physio with me every day. Even though it's very gentle stuff with very light weights she's already feeling some benefits in her legs. The trouble is that no matter how much strength her legs gain she's limited by her heart problems. This makes her very breathless after only a small amount of activity. At least she's still making the effort.
Right, enough for now. I must get ready for my 'Shorn Sheep' look. 🤣
Hugs to our poorlies and sads. Happy Friday to everyone.14 -
Morning Everyone,
Beautiful sunny day here.
Washing done and ready to hang out.
@ScarletRibbons I do hope some of the charity shops round by me open soon - I have things I want to donate.
Plans for today , I am off to help out at the foodbank this morning and some of the afternoon. Will then sit out in the garden when I get home.
Nice easy tea on Fridays - Chicken Salad

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Wall to wall sun at last here. I want to do a quick amble round with the duster and vac this morning before the 30 deg plus hits us. Just a shame it's a one day only heatwave.
I'm trying to fathom out if we are affected by the new restrictions over Northern England announced last night. It includes West Yorkshire but I don't know whether that is a certain city or the whole of it. Not that it makes a lot of difference to me as I haven't been socialising in peoples houses anyway, nor meeting groups of people in pubs. It seems it's those abiding by the rules are paying the price for the foolhardy ones. So it's same old same old for me. After 5 months of it I think I am getting used to being a recluse.
Have a good day folks, take care and stay safe xx

TA-
The areas that these changes apply to are:
- The Greater Manchester area
- Pendle
- Hyndburn
- Burnley
- Rossendale
- Blackburn with Darwen
- Bradford
- Calderdale
- Kirklees
- Leicester City

TA, we feel a bit surrounded by the areas that are going into lockdown here, but like you we haven't been socialising so it makes no difference. We are going home today anyway.
We went for a walk yesterday but it was a bit steep for me, we turned back in the end and I walked to a nearby village while Steve went back to get the car. We were both shattered though and had an early night, not that I got to sleep before my normal time. I don't think w'll be walking in the heat today, Ziggy will have to wait until the sun goes down for her constitutional.11 -
Good morning, thank you for starting us off nmlc.
What a beautiful morning g! I will ge washing bedlinen but not until OH gets out of bed. I don't need to as there are other sets but I would like to make the most of such a good drying day, I am turning into a sad person with limited horizons.
I have just spent some time looking up squirrel proof bird feeders and
a) not sure if they will work
b) they seem rather expensive
c) the decent ones are out of stock anyway
So I'll probably carry on feeding the greedy little things.
I have had a strange night of skating on the surface of sleep, occasional cat naps really. I don't need to do anything mentally taxing though, I did that yesterday.
We had a second flying ant day yesterday, there are probably more to fly today, I do like it when they go away but I don't want them back. The ant powder is not very effective, and I really can't use it at the front because where I have flattened the heaps, birds are coming to get the ants and they could get poisoned. The day before yesterday, when I tipped out the compost to mix it up, I had a little chirpy entourage to chat to.
I hope those of us in second lockdown will not be too depressed, I can see this extending to other areas too.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all.
Dashing about this morning as my friend will be here in 10 minutes to take me for the fortnightly shop.
Gers, enjoy your haircut. It really does make you feel better.
ILC,, good for you helping in the food bank. So worthwhile.
TA, you must be as confused as everyone else.
snoozer, hope your journey home isn't too hot and uncomfortable.
AOD, I saw my flying ants off with boiling water, except the ones high up in the stone wall. In the absence of anything more suitable I gave them a good squirt of WD40. It worked a treat.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The years have been kind to you. It's the weekends that do the damage.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Despite not living in any of the places on the list GERS, my DF has been in touch to say that we are affected by the new restrictions as we have the misfortune to be just inside the boundary of one of them and almost next to the boundary of another!. So there we are, back in isolation again. Good idea SNOOZER to head for home. With these latest announcements it may be that soon you will not be able to travel through the affected areas the way things are going. I will have one upset DGD as it will affect her 10th birthday party plans for this coming week. Poor kid, she has so been looking forward to it.
It just feels as if we are back at square one again and I feel more than a bit flattened x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning
For those still confused about what areas are included in the new restrictions try this
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/north-west-of-england-local-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do#affected-local-areas
Greater Manchester is a bit vague so this clarifies
Gorgeous day here so spa is onHad a walk out out before 7 and it was hot even then
Pizza for dinner so no prep needed looking forward to day in the sun even if its gone tomorrow
Have a lovely day all13
