hi trying to add my oh as named driver on my policy who is from the EU.
I've had previous policies with various insurers & oh been on as named driver no problems. OH has also held various policies with various insurers as well on own car as main driver. Both without issues.
Now tried to add oh as named driver to my current policy with onesure who are advising OH can only be added for a maximum of 28 days due to not having a UK licence (has a full EU one). They were asking if OH came over on a work visa or what & asked about citizenship. My understanding was OH didnt need a work visa to come over given from the EU & doesn't need citizenship as has the EU settlement status. OH has been here 8 years. Neither of us have been asked those questions by any previous insurer whether oh was main or named driver.
surely this can't be right?

They are wrong IMO.
The UK is still part of the EU as far as I know until the end of the year so an EU licence is valid throughout the EU.
Same re visa.0 -
The UK has left the EU. We are in the transition period.

If they've been granted EU Settled Status, that is indeed sufficient. It's not the job of a car insurer to be policing migration status, anyway.
At the moment, they can drive until they're 70 on their EU licence (assuming it's registered to a valid address...)

Whether that will change as part of the transition deal (or lack thereof) is another question entirely.0
