Redundancy notice

Hi all

I’ve recently been made redundant and have just received my payslip. My notice period has been calculated at the furlough rate, is this correct?

The way I understood it was notice periods were to be paid at your full salary rate.

It appears Government lawyers left a massive gaping loophole in the furlough laws, so until tomorrow the employer may have done nothing illegal.

It is more complex than this. If your notice does not exceed the statutory minimum by more than one week, then you should normally be entitled to the pre-furlough rate of pay. If your notice period is more generous than this, you may only get paid at furlough rate. This is how it was up to 31 July 2020. See https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-law-to-ensure-furloughed-employees-receive-full-redundancy-payments for the changes. The new law will take effect "from tomorrow", but we don't yet know what that means.
