No don't peel the bananas before you freeze them! The skins keep them from getting freezer burnt.

If you freeze them in the skins, then evn part thaw them to remove the skins you end up with a disgusting squodgy mess

have you thought about making banana ice cream - that is what i do if i have too many and they are just ripe. just mix them with whipped cream and some sugar, put into ice-cream maker if you have one. if you don't just use more cream.... for apples, freezing them in small bits or cubes for making crumbles works: they can go in frozen under the crumble topping.

  • I have about 2kg of ripe apples and bananas and was wondering what the best method would be to freeze them.

I was thinking apple puree, cook apples then blitz, mix in the banana and then freeze.

    Anyone got a better idea?

i would cook the apple, but not puree, and freeze them seperately (not mix apple and banana together) and in smaller usable size portions.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!
  • Bananas don't really freeze well, I would make Banana bread and or cake and then freeze. If you slice the Apples and blanch them for 30 seconds then lay them on a tray , freeze then put in bags they wont be a squidgy mess when you come to use them.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I freeze banana whole in their skins - just bung them in. Good for making cakes/bread with when you have the time.

You could just blanch the apples and freeze in portions.

There's an earlier thread on using up apples and bananas that may help so I'll add your post to it to keep the replies together.

    These threads may help too:
