New carpet fitted

Hello
Any carpet fitters on here?
I have just had a new carpet fitted. The carpet is 80/20 with a stiff backing so i imagine quite hard to fit on a stairs and landing.
The fitter has left but there are visible folds on the sides of the stairs where he has tucked the carpet in. When I questioned this he said that it would settle? Is that correct? I am not so sure. Also scratches on 3 of the room separators he installed. Am I wrong in thinking he has cut the carpet too thick so it bulges in places? Will it settle? Any help much appreciated

Some carpet fitters just do a crap job.  I had a company back three times to redo one room.

Carpet does settle but in my experience if it's slack now then it will only get slacker.
