Credit Card Application Timeout

I applied for my first ever credit card today (Barclaycard Forward card) using an initial eligibility check – which showed me as eligible – then went on to apply from this. The only issue is at the very end of the application I received an important call and when I came back to the website I think it had timed out. It actually said “We are experiencing technical difficulties and someone should be in touch shortly”. I believe the previous button I had clicked was “submit”, and the final page was registering for an account to submit supplementary information. I thought I’d see if I could use the free eligibility tool to see if it would indicate my application had gone through but the results for the second eligibility checker results came back as “we are unable to check your eligibility at this time”. I waited a couple of hours to see if anything came through over email or any calls – and then called them.
I then called them directly and was speaking to someone who didn’t seem to know too much about my problem or what to do. She was messaging another department so the call was a bit disjoined and confusing. She told me the person couldn’t see my application on their system and to wait for 7 days for any communication. She then said he actually confirmed the application hasn’t gone through and I could reapply, but she recommended I not do it yet and wait 7 days. I have not reapplied yet. I know some credit card applications can take weeks so I was surprised she said to wait only 7 days to reapply. Do you think 7 days would be a suitable amount of days to wait to see if my application was successful? And if I receive no communication (letter, email or call – not sure what to expect) in 7 days is it safe to assume the previous application was unsuccessful and applying again will not create problems?
I’m very nervous about applying a second time in 7 days and being rejected –which I assume would negatively affecting my credit score.
