RBS & Natwest Credit Card Farce

I started some PPI claims in late 2018 of the off chance that i may of have been miss-sold PPI in the last 20 years. So far i have had two payments totaling around £400 less the 20% commission. (I know I could have done it myself but i didn't expect anything back so nothing lost)
18 months after confirming I had a PPI claim on my Natwest Credit Card. I got an settlement offer 14 days ago for £700, I was very happy so I completed the online acceptance and was advised I would get my refund in 14 days.
I've sat here patiently checking my bank account on a daily basis looking forward to treating myself once I got my funds. So today I've rang RBS PPI team to find out where my payment is only to be told "Its was paid on the 24th July directly to Natwest Credit cards at their request for default or late payments" I explained I had fully settled the credit card and closed the account in May 2020 but was told i would need to speak to them to get my money.

I immediately rang Natwest Credit Card service to initially be told "no we have not had any payment" and I need to go back to the RBS PPI Team. I explained that I had just put the phone down on the RBS PPI team and was not prepared to be passed around as this is their internal issue not mine, In fairness the young lady agreed to speak to them and ring me back with her findings. She rang me back around 30 minuets later to explain that the payment is expecting in my credit card account in the next 28 days and I have to wait until I get my monthly paper statement confirming my account is in credit until I can ring them back up to claim my credit balance back.  I moved my credit card account to a full repayment account back in 2018 and have not had a monthly statement or online access to that account since. She cannot explain why Natwest Credit Card services claimed my PPI payout. I have raised a complaint with Natwest but I feel frustrated that i have no answers or my £700 for at least another 28 day.

Has anyone else had this kind of thing happen? if so how long did it take to get your money back and did they explain why they took the money in the first place?
Thanks

You're just going to need to be patient.  Anyone else's experiences and timescales are worth zero under the current circumstances.

I know Im going to have to wait... but i want to know about other people experiences and times scales hence why i asked that specifically.
And yes i know all about "current circumstances"

Please do not try and shut down the conversation, this may dissuade other people with experience of this from replying.

No one is trying to shut down the conversation, so please don't make silly accusations.
