Bought a car without V5C

Options
Hello all, I stupidly p/x a car without a V5C and bought the car I bought also did not have a V5C, now I’m extremely nervous.

I have a dated invoice for the transaction - and V5C on order for the car I px’d - but worried in the me time with my right towards speeding tickets etc.

Any advice or experiences would be extremely well received!

Thanks

    Not even the V5C/2...?

Then you're going to have to send in a V62 with £25, and wait for a month or two while DVLA process it (badly delayed due to their covid closure), and contact the previous registered keeper to ask if it's legit.

No mate, no V5C/2 for either car.

I have applied for my V5C to be sent to me.

Is there a way of finding the previous owner?

and will I be liable if any penalty points are incurred on the vehicle I have px’d? Seeing as the DVLA haven’t had notification I have sold?

    many thanks

    No.

    Notify them. ASAP. https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle/y/no/sold-it/sold-it-to-a-motor-trader
If you do not have a log book you must write to DVLA with:
    your name and address
    the vehicle registration number
    the make and model
    the exact date of sale
the name and address of the new keeper

    DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BD

Your notification can be rejected if you do not give all the information. This will also affect any vehicle tax refund you’re owed.

What was their excuse for no V5 or New keepers slip?

What is your excuse for no V5?

How have you paid the VED without a new keepers slip?

My V5C was somehow lost whilst moving homes (incredibly careless)

There excuse for no V5C was that it has private plates on and were waiting for them to be changed to original plates  before they received the V5C.

I have been on to the DVLA and they have since said if the plates are sold with the car then them plates are the new owners (so the old owner of the car I have bought has lost the plates on the car)

incredibly naive of me buying this way and very much a learning curve.

If they traded it into the dealer you bought it from, the dealer may know but won't be able to tell you. They may be able to ask them to provide the V5, but they'd have already done that on trade in.

It wouldn't really help you otherwise though, as the DVLA will still need to write to them and  let it time out.

That takes less than a week if done online, so they are talking kak.

I think I might have spotted the loophole here...
