Employer deducted holiday pay whilst on furlough-is this legal?

A friend of mine is being made redundant and during the consulatation (on Zoom) he was told they would get back to him with proposed payments.
He has now received the pay projections and it looks like for each month he was on furlough they have deducted 1.5 days of holiday. This may already have appeared on previous payslips but unquestioned at the time. I also do not believe my friend's salary was topped up by the employer which may have been a reason for them taking holidays.
Does anyone know if this is legal?

They cannot retrospectively make you take holiday.
Your friend should still have the holiday entitlement moving forward and should be paid as such.

ACAS have a helpline you can call. 0300 123 1100.
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere

Thanks-They may well have been deducting 1.5 days holiday during each furloughed month but my friend wasn't sure why at the timejimkelly said:They cannot retrospectively make you take holiday.

If they were deducting holiday, your friend should have been told and the holiday pay should have been at full rate not 80%.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
