Google Nest Cam

Options
So I purchased a Google Nest camera (£120)  from Amazon in May. In order to actually record on it you have to take out a subscription too. So I took the 30 day free trial, halfway through I signed up for the £50 event recording option. After a few weeks I decided it wasn't recording everything I needed so upgraded to the £100 option.

All worked fine for a few weeks then kept disconnecting and getting lots of error messages. It became completely useless, even after doing everything customer services told me to. So I sent the camera back to Amazon and they gave me a refund, no problem. Google have refused to refund me the £100 subscription and told me they don't do refunds at all, even within 30 days of purchase.

They have some very tiny small print that says the subscription is non refundable. However if I chose to pay monthly I would have been able to cancel. I've been in touch with the credit card company and they said unfortunately as it states it in the terms and conditions (although very sneaky) so they cannot open a charge back case.

So I'm £100 down with nothing to show for it. Does anyone have any advice on what i can do ?

The service is there for you to use whether you use it or not so they have done nothing wrong.

If you believe the system if faulty/buggy then prove it in the small claims court.

The problem is you have two unrelated contracts with two different entities. You would also need to check where legally the Google Nest contract is considered to be to know what, if any, statutory rights you may have to cancellation.

As an aside, I am a little surprised you had such problems, we have a few Nest products and whilst one or two teething problems setting them up they all work seemlessly after that. Though I did initially thought there were gaps in my recording but then noted that these were periods of inactivity (only have the lower level paid for service)
