If you haven't already got an online account, forget NS&I.
I have spent a day looking for my premium bond holder's number to register, filled in a load of details, and can't pass a "security check" from a 3rd party credit checking agency, asking questions I don't seem to know the answers to about an unspecified credit card that I have that I took out in 2002! (I have 3- no idea when I took any of them out .....), so they say to print & post the form, but not to hold my breath as they are on a go slow with post......

Now if they wanted to cross-check online against my N.I. number, National Health number, passport number, driving licence number, the last DBS check I had or for me to log in via the HMRC portal, I could easily comply.

I wanted to give them money!
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • @facade - Your credit report will show when you took out a certain credit card. Won't help though if you took out more than one in 2002, granted.

A PB Holder's Number can normally be found within 15 seconds, dependant on the time the NS&I page loads.

Presumably it's harder to find your PB holder's number on the NS&I website if the reason you want it is to register with NS&I's online service.

If they had given me even the single last digit of the card number I'd have had half a chance. Trying to second guess which one they wanted just used up the attempts, and they asked an unclear question about the balance (do they mean on the July statement that I haven't looked at, today or what?). I actually suspect the card in question is the one that I haven't used for years, (I just had notice they are closing the account) and have no idea what the credit limit is.
Do normal people actually know their credit limits and balances off by heart?

I thought I needed my PB number to get in in the first place, at least I found my certificate :).

All this effort for a few coppers in interest doesn't really seem worth it, I might as well stick with the 0.001% at the Hong Kong & Shanghai :)

I was asked what current account did I open in 2006 and what is the overdraft. I have no idea. That account has long since changed to take advantage of various bank offers (as suggested by MSE). A few guesses have now got my application blocked!

If you need it again at some stage: your credit agency report will contain this information.
