Roofer costs

Hi all,
Anybody got any experience of having any roofing work done recently, or happen to be/know a roofer?
We've just moved into a new house and unfortunately it looks like previous owners hadn't addressed two leaks to the roof - one near our chimney dripping through into the attic, and another one on the single-storey extension. The roof otherwise looks to be in fairly good condition though.
Local roofer (we're in the North West) has quoted me £700 and thinks it's going to need new flashing around the chimney, new mortar on the ridge tiles and re-pointing the edges of the tiles running next to the diagonal 'valley' on the extension where some of the mortar is crumbling away. No mention of replacing any tiles (doesn't look like any need it) or any more significant work.
He actually said he was doing some work in the area one day this week and would try fit it in, so sounds like he doesn't even think its a full day job. I assume that also means he's not planning to erect any scaffolding or anything like that.
Is £700 a bit steep - labour and material considered? I've got another guy calling me back this afternoon with a 2nd quote but just want a ball-park figure of how much a repair job like this should be costing.
Thanks for any advice.
