Try your local Aldi (if you have one) they had them on special offer there yesterday (Sunday 2nd Dec), roughly A4 size - £29.99. Be warned though that because it's an Aldi special they might of sold out already.
I've used one bought there last year and it seemed to do the job pretty well."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
If you want a decent one, choose a Wacom tablet, they are excellent and used by professionals. Amazon have some good prices on some models at the moment. The A5 or A6 ones will probably be the best budget ranges, anything above A5 will be quite expensive.
Product info at: http://www.wacom-europe.com/uk/index.asp0 -
It depends what he needs it for - the cheaper ones are really only good for playing about with. I used to be a graphic designer and I still draw for pleasure, and I have a Wacom - I wouldn't consider anything less. That said, it cost £200 for an A4 size, so they're not exactly cheap!
There's a small ish (but fully useable) one reduced by £10 on the PC World site at the moment: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0222689963.1196693722@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccekaddmjhklddjcflgceggdhhmdfnm.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=470055&category_oid=
(Edit - forgot to mention the price, it's £59.99).0 -
He is a designer so i want to get him a good one.
Not got an neverending budget though but would consider and then give me a little to play around with!:j MOVING TO AUS 12th JULY 2009 WOOHOO :j0 -
Wacom it is then! Have a look at the A6 or A5 ones on Amazon, I wouldn't use anything else.
What is your budget?0 -
i'd be willing to spend up to £300.00 if necessary but i dont really want to lol!!:j MOVING TO AUS 12th JULY 2009 WOOHOO :j0

Just from amazon, try www.froogle.co.uk to find lower prices.
My two quick "professional" picks would be:
Wacom Intuos3 A5 Tablet Pen and Mouse £215.
Wacom Intuos 3 A6 Wide Tablet with Pen £177
Or a fun cheaper versions: Wacom Bamboo Fun Medium Graphics Tablet £129
or even the starter one: Wacom Bamboo One Graphics Tablet £34
Hope that helps

I would suggest trying a cheap one (around £50) first. If your OH likes the idea of it and the way it interacts with his usual drawing software, then go for the more expensive one. These gadgets often get left unused (they take up a lot of desk real estate for one).0

You'll find quite a good range, and some better prices at:

the aldi ones are great value for the money, but if hes a designer then get the pukka one. ie wacom.
the cheap little ones are really just playingtoys.
