Redundancy consultation, what to expect?

My company are doing redundancy consultations with all staff.

I've never gone through this experience. I understand that I would be suitable for one of the few remaining jobs but don't know who else would go for it. The remaining jobs will not be the same as they will have to combine roles no longer in place.

What should I expect from this meeting ? Is this about proving why I should be one of the people staying ?

  • Usually the first meeting is discussing what is happening, what it would mean for you etc. Usually they ask if you want to be considered to stay or are you happy to be made redundant. It should then be a fair decision on who goes and who remains. Ask your boss though for clarity before the meeting.
