Wedding refund

I have had to postpone my wedding from November 2020 to March 2021 due to Covid-19. My venue and suppliers have all done this with no extra charges except for one. The horse and carriage company I booked decided to increase the price from £675 to £1250. First stating because it had gone from a weekday wedding to a saturday wedding which I proceeded to point out that I had always had a saturday wedding booked. They then responded saying it was due to the fact that March is more in season and that they are now a licenced company (which as far as I was concerned you needed to be licenced to trade anyway) so have had to increase their prices. I feel I am being severely ripped off as I asked for quotes from other companies for the same time and received quotes for £625 and £799. I have decided to go with one of these companies instead but due to the first companies behaviour I would like to get my deposit back. I want to know where I stand on my rights with the deposit which is £150 and whether I can get it back?

Given you are cancelling it yourself in the above scenario, I would suggest you wont stand anywhere in getting it back.

Did you pay on credit card?  There may be some avenue to follow there.

I think you may have to take this one on the chin though.  If you have booked with the alternative company, take the hit on the £150 and you've still got the same experience for £775.

All in the knowledge that, if this is how they are treating customers, they probably won't survive long in the current climate.
