O/S Daily Tuesday 28 July 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day - although blustery wind is forecast later. Damp underfoot after rain and a power cut last night.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work.
DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, roast potatoes, carrots, brocolli, peas, LO yorkshires (from freezer) and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed after quick meals over the weekend. I remembered to get some chicken out to defrost - so need to decide what to do with that either a herb coating, then sides of hot new potatoes and veg or rice/pasta. I'll decide during the day.
Yesterday work was busier than it has been, so many customers coming to the door, and then just banging on the day or trying to get in even though there's big signs saying we're not open as a walk in service and they need to ring the number shown! We'll see how today goes.
Had positive news re DH's grandad - seems they can't find anything wrong - but as he's been at home and sitting a lot and not moving about he's lost a lot of his muscle strength so they have been getting him up on his feet and walking and moving about and they say he's already much stronger - there's a hope he can come home on Thursday - we'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off NMLC - and good news about your DH's GD. UTI's can cause confusion in the elderly so once it's cleared things almost always become better. I've got my DM doing a short set of seated arm and leg exercises with 0.5kg weights each day. She says she feels a bit stronger and more balanced. Also, the sit-to-stand one is very good. The rain yesterday was persistent, today already looks brighter. I managed to get DM's bed linen changed whilst she was in the loo, so I did a washing load. I didn't go out after all so will consider it today. I made some hasselback potatoes as part of DM's lunch and pinched a couple for myself. They were really tasty too. 😀I've got a half hour online session this afternoon with Volunteer Scotland which I can't miss.
Last night I tried one of those trendy cocktail drinks in a gin. Espresso Martini, I didn't enjoy it at all. It was over sweet and very watery ☹️ so won't be trying any others.I hope that everyone is doing at least OK. Happy Tuesday to all. 🤗15 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC. Glad to hear your Dh's Grandad is a bit better. Hope he does get home soon. It's bright and breezy here, a welcome change from yesterday, it rained all day. I'm hoping to get some washing out, I'v e got a basket full.We came back from Whitby on Sunday after having had a lovely few days there in the caravan, what a nice change it was.Nanny, I'm sorry your DH has had bad news healthwise, I was reading along last week. It'll just be a housework day today, and I've got a couple of phone calls to make.DH is planning to cut the hedge, it's a disgrace - it really should hasve been done before we went away, now it's sprouting in all directions. The garden generally could stand a tidy really, it'll get done this week.16

Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. Better news on Grandad, hope he continues to gain strength in his legs.
We didn't get the thunder and lightening after all yesterday. We did get some rain but not torrential. Today no rain forecast just an overcast and miserable day. Such depressing weather does nothing to lift the spirits.
DD rang from the 'van to say she wants the dinner set Bob had bought and had delivered from Hong Kong going on 35 years ago! ! He had three china ones sent, one for me, one for DD and the other for DS. By the time they each left home dinner sets were out of fashion so they remained boxed up here. Now. at last, she wants hers as she thinks it would be lovely to use in the static (whenever we get it!) I then.mentioned mine which only ever came out at Christmas, or when we had company, and has lived in the dresser unused for years. You should start using it, she said. So I am! I cleared out all the mish-mash of crockery in the kitchen and replaced it with my lovely dinner set. (Apart from the enormous meat platter which has remained in the dresser as I can't see that ever getting used again!) So now I am dining in style and have a big box of crockery in the garage to be disposed of!!
That was the extent of my excitement of yesterday! I still have my sore mouth so another day of baby food today. Will have a freezer rummage next and see what delights I can come up with. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. BELLA good to hear better news of your DM, that must have been such a relief to hear there is no spread and has agreed to the op. Still a worry but not as big a worry as you feared. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Scarlett I love Whitby so beautiful and by far the best place in the UK for fish and chips
Gers well done on the hasselbacks I love them must add to the list
Nothing of any significance happening here weather much brighter today after constant rain so far this week. Looks like Thurs/Friday will a hot one so best book the pool boy and James on the bbq in prep
Terrorist here tomorrow so need to get the house out of CHAOS Cant wait for them to open the clinics then I can go there. When my physio consists of cleaning the house ready for a physio visit its time to be doing something different
Hope everyone has a good day14 -
Good morning and thanks for starting us off nmlc. Good news about granddad.
Bella, I was glad to see that your mum is going to accept treatment.
A dull morning here but not the heavy rain that we had more or less all day yesterday. There were a few hours of light rain, just as counterpoint to the heavier rain but basically it was wet.
I finished my dinosaur and it is packed for posting. It is striped and that might be unrealistic for a dinosaur but who knows, they could have been stripey for all I know. Now making a bear in a babygro for someone else. I had to stop after a while as my hands were hurting, does anyone here wear soft splints for arthritis and if so, have they helped? Some days I can ignore it but others are more of a challenge.
Today I will need to do another online training course, a lot of expense while I'm not actually earning but anyone wanting me to work will also want me to keep my training and refresher courses up to date. Some of the cost can be offset against tax but I keep thinking of my last tax return. I got a letter saying I owed such and such, swiftly followed by a letter telling me I'd overpaid and they had repaid that and then another letter saying I'd underpaid.but all the while, they had forgotten to allow for stuff that is normally offset. It was easier being employed.
I hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -

Good morning everyone
AOD, I use compression gloves when my wrists are sore and they help a bit but really the only thing that works is resting the joint. Funnily enough I have woken up in pain from my wrist so I am laying off the knitting for a day or so until it stops hurting. By the way, your stripy dinosaur sounds amazing.
Today, I have loaded up the slow cooker with Mexican pork pozole which already smells nice and spicy. I will need to go back to bed soon as I feel shattered after a bit of a rubbish night. After that the world is my mollusc.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning All
Glad there's an improvement in Grandad nmlc.
Pleased to hear your DM is going for treatment Bella.
It rained all day yesterday and was really miserable. I was soaked to the skin at the allotment, at least I had a big bagful of peas for my efforts. I had to change when I got home I was so wet so I put some PJs on and watched TV all day!
Must make more of an effort today, I've already written birthday cards for tomorrow (lots of birthdays tomorrow including DDs). One to post so should really go for a shower and wander up to the post box before 9.
Have a good day, take care. XX14 -
TA, I started using my wedding present crockery and cutlery about 10 years ago because it was such a waste keeping them for best. In fact the crockery is very dated now (70's chunky rustic rather than plain white porcelain) although I still love the cutlery which was very modern in design and hasn't aged as badly as the crockery.
Good news about grandad NMLC.
Busy day in store here. We are going to Yorkshire this evening (Steve has a golf competition this afternoon so we can't go earlier) so I have to pack. I am also going to pick up Ziggypup when I have dropped Steve off at the club. I am taking stuff down for Laura as well so I need to sort that, better get on.

Morning all.
Good news about your DH's grandfather nmlc. We ancient ones can be a great worry to our families. At least, I sincerely hope so, I've been practising being difficult for years. I tell my sons it is payback time for what they put me through in their teens.
Nelski, it's true then. Nothing cleans a house like company coming.
Gers, I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. You are a wonderful daughter
Scarlett, welcome back. Glad you had a good break.
TA, I let my good china go some time ago. I used it in the 60s and 70s when we did things like giving dinner parties, but hardly ever after that. It was much too good to use for the bunch of teenagers who seemed to inhabit my home, Wedgewood and a wedding gift from my father-in-law. Since then it has been plain and replaceable.
AOD if there weren't striped dinosaurs before, there certainly are now.
Long pause while I answer the phone.
Today I have the great pleasure of going through a few more boxes of things not seen for 5 years. I know why I kept all this stuff, but we don't realise how our lives can suddenly change and make things that we have always used suddenly redundant. Its a pity the charity shops are so inundated. I am tempted to lay all my stuff out on the front lawn with a notice, HELP YOURSELF.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Don't imagine that the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first. (Mark Twain)I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13
