Yes you read it right! WE got the mortgage offer from Nationwide today (at least a text/email saying "Mortgage Offer issued" and that would be in a post soon), same day as our valuation. Well I am delighted obviously about it but at the same time them not asking for a SINGLE document (not even a payslip from either one of us) and still receiving this update is what i think is weird/unusual. We applied through the broker who said even he is surprised about it but aint complaining. He didnt harp on it much. Though I am. I just feel they are going to come back to us at some point saying "It was a technical glitch or something" and they would like to reassess everything

To give you guys some background. I and my husband are looking to buy a new build house with both of us employed and not affected by the current scenario (luckily).
- We are both existing Nationwide customers (since 2017)
- Three current accounts. Two joint one single. Child Saver account. Start to Save accounts each
- Nearing half of our deposit, is distributed across these account we hold with Nationwide
- From our Nationwide joint account, our existing mortgage direct debit goes regularly with out issues.
- To note none of the Nationwide accounts we have are our Salary accounts. Those are with Natwest since 10 years.
- We own another property which is currently rented out which we intend to keep renting out as possible.
- I have had a Nationwide loan in the past which was cleared successfully (not sure if that counts/counted)
- We both have literally top credit score on Experian and decent on Equifax and Noddle/TransUnion. Needless to say we have never missed payments or anything of that sort.

We had our valuation booked for today which did happen. And we got back to back messages (Email and Text) from Nationwide.
16:08 - Valuation report has been received. We shall review it and get back within two working days
16:08 - We are pleased to let you know we've issued a mortgge offer. Please make sure you read the offer carefully

Sorry for the long post! But I wanted to make sure I give an accurate background about us. So my question is
Has this ever happened to anyone? Issuing the mortgage offer without asking for a single document? Has this ever happened in history of mortgage applications!?
Do you guys think its likely that it might be some technical error and that we should chase Nationwide for this?

I am delighted at receiving the offer but quite paranoid with the way we got it. Hope I am only paranoid and that the offer is for real!

Thanks for reading! Please let me know your thoughts!

Home buying yet again!! Fingers crossed!!

  • Your broker didn't ask for payslips?
  • We gave broker literally everything! Payslips, bank statements, deposit proofs etc etc for when asked he keeps them ready. He informed us they never asked for anything

Some large employers report income to HMRC monthly so nationwide can get info about income from there. If just using basic and it matches the rti hmrc report then it isnt that uncommon not to need a payslip. If you are existing nationwide banking customers they will already know a lot about your account conduct without needing to see a bank statement.

Aah I see. Possibily that could be the case. Though have you heard of cases like mine? Wouldn't you say its rare?

We get many many cases like that - it isn't rare. Any person who is just basic and works with a large employer who report monthly to rti who are with a lender like halifax, barclays, santander, nationwide may not have to send in a payslip. If they bank with that bank they may also not need to send in a bank statement as they can see on the internal systems what the banking history is.
We need 3 months payslips and bank statements of course and the lender has the right to request this paperwork up to 2 years post completion so it doesn't affect what we do whether the lender asks for it or not as we still need it on file

When we remortgaged to nationwide (when we first bought they had an enormous backlog so we went elsewhere for speed) they didn’t want anything from me, but all sorts of ID from my spouse. This was despite us having current accounts, savings accounts and both of us having been customers of theirs for 10+ years!
So it’s all a bit random.
