    Hi,
So I received a call this morning from Amazon, and they were extremely apologetic because of the mistake of a promised full refund. They then said they had contacted the seller via phone and they agreed to part refund us £240 due to us having to do all the running around, and repairing the furniture ourselves. This wasn't the £800 originally promised but it is much better than nothing, as they could have told us that because of the work we had done on the furniture would mean 0 return.

yes getting it repaired, buying a cover, and spending the promised money on other things. like the other post said we should have waited for the money in the account before spending it but with having 3 different confirmations (2 recorded) I truly thought it was a sure thing.
Amazon will contact us tomorrow with what will happen. I'll share their verdict.
You may have thought it was a sure thing, but it was still foolish to spend money before you had it...

But, as you do have it in writing that you don't have to send it back and can also have a refund (which was clearly an error!!!), then the only way you can hold Amazon to this is to threaten them with court action.

I think I'd go with pushing for a partial refund for the cost of getting it fixed.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Now....the date for the refund to be issued has passed and has not appeared in our account. I have spoken to Amazon customer services and they said that our previous advisor has made a mistake and should not have told us that, and that we should in fact return the item in order to get the refund. This has obviously now got us in deep water financially and I feel very stressed, worried and annoyed with the whole situation.

It sounds like you have a much bigger financial problem if your in deep financial trouble by not receiving an £800 refund and you really should look into doing a budget and building up an emergency fund otherwise your one big bill from financial disaster.
