Benefits for NI contributions

Hi
Partner made redundant a couple of weeks ago due to Covid downturn, I am self employed and thankfully still earning which means he doesn't need benefits urgently, however is it worth him registering with the system, so his NI payments are continued and the system knows that he hasn't disappeared off the face of the earth? He's never received anything as he's always worked, but things are different now. Any advice please?

IF he's worked though PAYE in tax years April to March 2017 to 2019 then a claim for New style JSA would be possible. It pays £74.35 per week for 26 weeks. It also pays Class 1 NI. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-jobseekers-allowance

Depending on how much you are earning you may be eligible for Universal Credit as a couple. Use a benefits calculator to check https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators. Otherwise new style JSA for him if eligible as advised by poppy.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
