We would like to give a lump sum of £10,000 from my deceased uncle's assets to his girlfriend. But we think she is on benefits. She is retired but lives with her brother in sheltered housing.
Would £10,000 affect any of her benefits?

means tested benefits, yes. It wouldn’t reduce them entirely, because that limit is often £16k, but it would reduce them.
Any disability benefits or non means tested benefits would not be affected.0 -
Do you claim any means tested benefits yourself? If you do then giving away your savings will be classed as deprivation of capital and you'll still be classed as having that money.
