Is it worth asking talktalk for help?

I manage my grandparents in-laws' talktalk account (they are both in their 90s and have broadband and land-line). Last summer we cancelled their unlimited calls add on as they rarely used the phone (they Skype a lot) and had a mobile (giffgaff) that was cheaper to buy unlimited minutes that they used instead.
On 21st July my grandfather in-law had a fall and broke his hip. He took the mobile to the hospital and since then my grandmother in-law has racked up £40 in call charges all for short calls to landlines (example being £3 for a 15minute call to a land-line).
We have now transferred them onto a contract with unlimited calls again.
Is it worth asking talktalk to refund some/all of the call charges for this week given the unusual /unfortunate circumstances?
