Self Employed/Universal Credit

I'm sure my case is the same as many others.  I have only been self employed since September 2019, prior to that made redundant after 20 years at same job.
My Self employment earned me just enough to survive on, it is not a profit making business.  Since March I have not earned a single penny.
I applied for universal credit which was very painful, lots of emails, phone calls and talking to different people every time it was sorted out after 8 stressful weeks.  My application was approved much to my relief and couldn't wait to start receiving some money.  However, my husband was on furlough and still receiving a wage so therefore his pay outweighed my universal credit so I received £0, Nil, Nothing !!!!!   I have still not received a single penny from anywhere.
Firstly is this correct?????
Secondly why the hell is this not explained when making the application.  I am now nearing a position where I giving up on everything.  I have never been out of work in 35 years of working until being made redundant.  Where is the justice.
Please, any advice would be helpful to avoid me going into brankruptcy.

Universal credit is based on a couple's income for couples living together. You could look into a bounce back loan for your business.
  • It is made aware to people. The eligibility criteria is available on the UC page of the gov website.

    As Mark says
    https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility
If you live with your partner
Your partner’s income and savings will be taken into account, even if they are not eligible for Universal Credit.
However, my husband was on furlough and still receiving a wage so therefore his pay outweighed my universal credit so I received £0

It isn't your individual UC, it is a joint claim and joint entitlement based on joint circumstances.

If you were employed between April 2017 and April 2019 you may be able to claim new style JSA which could pay you £74.35/week for 26 weeks. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-jobseekers-allowance

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
