O/S Daily Monday 27 July 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Grey overcast start to the day - looks like rain although not raining as yet.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner yesterday was a quick meal as we'd been out all day - DH had chicken burger, wedges, salad and coleslaw. I had the remaining half of a salad that needed using up with some LO chicken.
Today hopefully will be less stessy. DH's uncle arrived yesterday afternoon, he's immediate next of kin to DH's grandfather. I spoke to the nurse at the hospital who is dealing with DH's grandad yesterday and so did DH's uncle and we can't understand a word he's saying - but the bit I did understand was that the Doctor would only speak to the relevant person ie, that being DH's uncle who phoned to speak to them last night and he wasn't told anything either. Once we came home DH rang his family member to keep them up to speed on current situation and they flew into a torrent of nasty comments and DH told them to have a word with themself - this person is a close family member and should be concerned for grandad's welfare but there's a huge history of stuff and DH and I have kept out of all of it but its difficult at times when you have adults acting like spoilt nasty individuals! So we'll be staying away from family member for a while as it seems to be the only thing they seem to understand and we're not going to visit if we just get a torrent of abuse (unfortunately that's very likely!
Back to work today - so be interested to see what's happening.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. Sorry to hear Grandad's hospital admission has lead to grievances and arguments amongst certain family members. I hope things calm down.
What a lovely day we are going to have! The forecast is for heavy rain, thunder and lightening! They might be wrong (says she hopefully) as they were wrong about yesterday's good forecast! No rain but there was a blooming strong wind blowing. As is par for the course these days I won't be going out in it!
As far as eating goes today I shall be on baby food! The roof of my mouth is really sore, I don't know if something too hot burned it or something crispy dug into it, but it will be soft food only today. I have got a sachet of soup out to defrost for lunch and a tub of savoury mince to turn into a big dish of Cottage Pie for tea. Breakfast avocado and poached egg. I should manage to eat that lot ok.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning all! Raining! The sleep stick did not smack me upside the head last night, nor the night before, nor the night before that. I'm tired when I go to bed but then I wake up at three in the morning or two after a bad dream and then struggle to get comfortable and sleep again. Personally, I think it could be not taking the tablets, or lack of physical excercise. I'm not going to find out if its the latter today because it's raining...Maybe tomorrow....There was no socially distanced visiting eysterday thanks to the rain not knowing when it was going to hammer down and when it wasn't, although I did pop round to OHs mum and throw some runner beans and new potatoes at her...We'll see her later in the week...I have been keeping an eye on the infection rate locally, and it is ramping up quite a bit now..Cue more isolating I think before long. Totally prepped and ready [mostly]I was reading something here yesterday and I can't remember what thread it was but someone mentioned bobotie [ SA national dish] I thought it sounded quite nice so I made it last night for supper and it very much was nice.Thumbs up from OH so it's now added to the recipe bank. And there are leftovers for tonight. I did attempt yellow rice, in that I put tumeric and did the onions and garlic and stuff but unfortunately, I used brown rice [ prefer the texture when cooked] and for a laugh, thought I'd chuck in some of the black rice I bought to see what it was like. Yellow rice turned into a very dark brown rice but it was still nice, just a bit of an unexpected colour! And I found one jar of gooseberry jam I didn't know I had left, so now I have to find someone to give it toUh oh..it's a-thundering and a-lightnering now, quite loudly right outside the window! eek! Hey! Maybe it'll hit the monster tree!Today there are no plans in stone, there's the potential for a nap, I will have to fix the toilet sink [ leaking from the plughole] and hope we don't get overflowing drains again . It rained so hard on Saturday we had to lift the inspection chamber to check because the water was doing the same thing it did before when it was overflowing from a blockage. Luckily, I think it was just the volume of water due to the rain and it came back down again fairly quickly. Good job too, it's not my favourite job.meanmarie, hope they can sort your leg out pdq! Gers, does dhe think she looks like a bag lady, or she actually looks like a bag lady? If she's worrying about her appearance this is good yes? Hope you had a good visit. dumpling, have you seen the chickpea and peach curry Jack Monroe recipe? Apparently it's really really nice. Hapy new hair day Ruby. nanny, I love a cauli cheese with a roast dinner, especially beef...well done on the savvy shopping too. I've been reading that horsetail can be a sign of compacted soil. I'm not sure how true that is since it's everywhere in the garden including the beds I dug and thought were cleared. TA, ice cream too?
hope it heals quickly! ..Right, have a good all to come or all to come and read...Muddy Monday!

Peace reigns in the Bella house as the four legged toddler has gone home I do miss her a little as she was very affectionate . i didn't get on line on Friday as lots going on Mum had her results all good the cancer hasn't spread so she has decided to go ahead with the investigation and then the hysterectomy so complete turn around but i am pleased .
DD2 and fiancee needed collecting from the airport they had a lovely time in Turkey where more precautions seem to be in place absolutely no temp checks etc in uk but temp checks at airport and hotel as well as luggage sprayed with disinfectant over there
Nmic sorry to hear about grandad hopefully the nastiness from others will stop and visiting will be easier
TA ouch to your mouth hope it feels better

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc and I hope that your relative calms down
After a rainy day yesterday, we had some rain overnight and it started again in earnest at about 6, thunderstorms are forecast later. I think I'll stay in *for a change*.
TA, my sympathies, a sore mouth is no fun. Somehow you can't pretend it doesn't hurt, not in the way you can sometimes ignore other painful bits.
I have finished dinosaur #2 apart from making it some little stumpy legs and that won't take many minutes, I should have a big plastic envelope somewhere, it will need to be a big one as Dino is 29 inches nose to tail. If not I will have to be creative with a bin bag. Then on with baby things for younger friends before I return to the trauma teddies. So if the weather cheers up this week, I'll be able to do outside things and if not, I have lots to do indoors.
I am another tired one, I go to sleep but wake repeatedly, mostly to escape from the weird dreams. Still, if I have to, I can always have a nap.
Marie, hope you get a date soon.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning All
After a lovely sunny (but breezy) day yesterday we're back to rain and lots of it. So glad I swapped my lazy afternoon for one busy in the garden. Re-potted some plants, trimmed others and cut the hedge at the front, pleased to see it has recovered after its rather serious trim from a couple of months ago!
We had a good Costco trip, everything well organised and I got DGD a Speedo swimming cossie for £7.00, just need the pools to open now. I also bought a cooked chicked that I had too much of for tea, it was delicious but I will be eating it all week, I do like a chicken salad.
Pleased to hear you have an appointment MM.
Sorry your relative is causing grief nmlc, hope Grandad is improving.
Allotment this morning, no doubt there will be a million peas to collect, have a happy Monday, take care. XX

Morning all. It's very soggy here, and dark. Perhaps it'll brighten up later.TA - how bizarre, hope you heal soon.TAFF - it's me who thinks DM looks like a bag lady, albeit a very clean and posh one! 😂 Her clothes are just hanging off her.BELLA - that's such great news, well done to a brave DM.Today my agenda is fluid again. 🤣 I have to collect a prescription for DM and get it filled. On my way I may attempt a visit to the tip and Costco again. Camelot reassured me about the queueing time though I'll wait to see if the rain stops.I've pulled a muscle on my right thigh, the one which goes up the middle to the hip. Think I did it doing my exercises 🤣 just can't win!Hey ho... now it's time to wish everyone a happy Monday.14

Bella, that's really good news, it must be a boost for you.
TA, I hope the mouth gets better soon, one thing about soft tissue damage in the mouth is that it seems to repair itself quite quickly.
NMLC, I hope grandad gets better soon.
Rain looks set in today which is a shame because I have to go out today to collect an order and various other things, mostly for Esben. I'm going down to see them tomorrow to pick up Ziggypup who we are having for about three weeks. Unfortunately she's not been well over the weekend, Laura took her to the vet yesterday, so I'm hoping she'll be a bit better today.

Good morning everyone
I have just been shouting at the Argos website as I couldn't get my e-voucher to work and I really need some saucepans. I have given up for now but will try again later. The house smells of curry at the moment as I am making a slimming world stalwart of curry loaf. I have never had it before but my sister assures me it is lovely and I want something for snacks now I have ditched the chocolate and crisps. I also would like to make some scotch eggs when I have had a bit of a rest, maybe that can wait until tomorrow. Tonight we are having chicken supreme with broccoli and noodles and the kids are going to have chicken kievs and chips.
Bella, I was so pleased to hear that your mum has decided to change her mind, it must be a huge relief for you x
snoozer, I hope Ziggypup feels better soon x
Gers, I knew exercise was bad for you, hope your muscle repairs itself quickly x
nmlc, best wishes for your grandad's speedy recovery x
I am still in the process of sorting out the food cupboards. I have taken a tip from one of our lovely ex members and have pulled out several packets and tins that need to be incorporated into this weeks meal plan. I made up a packet of butterscotch Angel Delight yesterday, only 2 years out of date but it was still delicious.
Right, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all
The sleep stick did not hit me last night either I was still awake at 5 this morning and then OH gets up at 6 to get ready for work so Ive had very little sleep I did 18 miles on my bike yesterday and then a 3 mile walk so its not the lack of exercise !! I can see a nana nap on the cards later !!
Need to have a quick clean through and empty the magic cupboard ( I love that description !!) and walk the dogs but I think that will be it for today, I am just to shattered to do anymore.
Not sure about dinner but we have lots in so plenty of choice.
Bella Good news for your mum I am pleased she is going for some treatment xx
Marie glad to hear you have an appointment xx
TA hope your mouth gets better soon, if you have a kiwi fruit or pineapple eat some as they are great for healing the mouth xx
Have good days all xx13 -
Hello all, what a dire day we have here. It's been raining and windy since last night and we've had the thunder. It's very dark, dull and dingy and seems set for most of the day. I hope it calms down a bit later as we have to put the bins out.I managed to get an A*da slot yesterday but it was very stressful as the website kept timing out. Anyway now sorted and delivery will be next Sunday, that's the quickest slot I've found since before lockdown, it's normally been about 3 weeks, so perhaps online shopping is calming down.My creeping up on " to do " jobs worked yesterday and even the dreaded ironing was tackled. I wanted to make a cake today but I forgot to take the bananas out of the freezer, I wonder if I can use the defrost function on the microwave ? I think I'll try it as I have a glut of frozen bananas in there and I only need 3. They seemed to be going black quicker than we could eat them. We are back on the diet wagon so I shouldn't really make cake, but we've run out of ice cream and we like something sweet for pudding after tea. Tea tonight will be leftover veg and roasties with gravy for me and sweet chilli chicken and oven chips for himself.Seems we have a lot of poorlies on here today with painful mouths, muscles, legs etc. so I will send copious healing vibes all round. I'll also dig the Sandman out from his den ( the wardrobe
) and send him on his way tonight. Hugs to anyone struggling with daily life too.
NMLC there certainly are a lot of a*ses out there, especially relatives who think it's their right to be obnoxious. Special hugs xbella glad the cancer hasn't spread and Mum has her investigation soon.Take care all, stay safe and keep wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13
