So assuming the PDF was right in terms of pricing, 2 lots of £29.95, plus a tenner tip, equals £69.90. So one assumes they spent £19.70 on the alcohol but that would be £3.28 of VAT at 20%, not £2.77. We need more details from the OP here.0 -
Thanks everyone who replied.
I'm really cross that I lost the actual restaurant bill, so I can't prove my assertion.
However I'm sure there was a "plus VAT" charge on top of the bill, and it was not a service charge/ gratuity or anything else.
I guess I'll have to wait for my next visit and be absolutely sure I keep the receipt.

Like I said, the VAT may have been split out from the rest of the bill and you werent overcharged at all. So as an example if your meal was £105, it would say £100 plus VAT.
Although if you had alcohol during the meal it wouldnt be a neat 5% on top.0
