Google Pay & AMEX..??

Options
The other month i made the move after 10 years with iPhones to go to the Android world in the shape of a Galaxy S10 & I'm having trouble paying for things with my Amex via Google Pay.

When i was with Apple, contactless appeared simple. Give it a double tap, it'd bring up my card list, i'd select which one i'd want to use (as i know some retailers wont accept Amex so i'd just select my current account card), job done.

I had bother paying via Google Pay with any card initially so took a look in to it & sorted it out. Put my current account card as default & was able to then pay for things. I couldn't figure out how to toggle on the spot though and i don't think you can?? You have to decide what the default is & use that and if you want to change then you have to go and change default?? Which is all a bit time consuming when you're in a long queue.
Anyway so like i said, i had no bother paying with my current account card via contactless on my phone. I switched it to the Amex and i just don't seem to be able to pay for a thing. I put it to the card readers and it just does nothing. These are places that i know take Amex too - such as Sainsbury's.

Advice please?

Nope. I wasn't aware that it was a requirement in order to pay with the Amex? I thought (just an assumption so i could be wrong) that you just loaded whatever card you wanted to use in to Google Pay.

Yeah you should be able to , but I have the Amex app too so I am not sure if that makes a difference, have you scanned it on the phone or typed it in? I scanned mine and Amex sent a verification code which needed adding to Google pay when it was added. Then I just tap google pay icon and switch cards, but some times I need to enter my fingerprint too / or the pin number to access the app itself. Some times but not sure which card it was the merchant m/c sent "enter your pin" to the phone, of course I put in the pin to the app but it really meant the pin for the card. Anyhow I was in a rush so paid by cash?
