Bought a faulty used car. Trader is ignoring me.

Ouch. That tends to confirm what I'm saying.matt4p said:
So i guess the Consumer Rights Act doesn't mean much then. I can see he has already renamed his business atleast once before and changed phone numbers since my issue started.waamo said:
Ouch. That's nasty. I really feel for you. It's an awful thing to say but this is a common situation. If you win a claim he will dissolve the company before you can enforce anything. That's if he hasn't done so already.matt4p said:
The repairs are likely to cost in excess of £2000waamo said:
It's over £400 to lodge a claim. I hate to say but the likelihood of you getting anything back is about nil. Do you really want to fork out just to make a point? I appreciate you may do but it's an expensive point.matt4p said:I've had conversations with Citizens Advice and they have instructed me on sending letters using their templates. I have given the dealership 2 weeks from the date they received the letter (Tracked to them via Royal Mail) So in a few days time I will be opening a claim. I'm not so sure how that works at this time but ultimately I don't want a car from a seller who, if they do repair it, will do the cheapest way they can. I have checked them out online since and have seen they are doing the same to many buyers, selling faulty cars, not posting off the log to DVLA, claiming they will send on the Service book, blocking the sellers phone number and not fulfilling their promises. Very frustrating and I hope i can claim back the court cost if i win.
Yes you are almost certain to win a court claim. As I've said the odds of you getting anything are about nil. I hate to say but it's your call as to what to do.0 -
Lesson learned. I'll have a chat with CAB still but have taken on what you have said also.

Is he a limited company?
If he is forget the court claim and save your £400 - guaranteed he'll put company into administration and start up again with a new name - but will not be liable for your car.0 -
I really want to have some sympathy with the OP, but there are so many warning signs here that I find it hard to understand how they were all missed:
£8k is a big amount to spend on a car with all these warnings, whether the real warning lights or the metaphorical warnings from the behaviour of the dealer and missing documents.matt4p said:purchase of a used car which not only turned out faulty but the dealer is acting very suspicious.
Warning lights on the car during test drive.
the Dealer would be receiving the vehicle service log in the post and it would then be posted out to me.
those warning lights were not resolved when the battery was run up like the dealer said. Also, Park Brake is not working now with errors and also having suspension issues.
The Service Log book never arrived and I haven't even had the V5C from DVLA because they haven't had the paperwork from the seller.
the car cost was £8000.
What was so special about this car that the OP didn't just walk away?0 -
Just naive, I guess. All seemed genuine at the time and seeing as it was a big 4x4 that i'm not used to I was explained they have some querks. Completely fell for it!Grumpy_chap said:I really want to have some sympathy with the OP, but there are so many warning signs here that I find it hard to understand how they were all missed:

How about parking your car outside the premises with a big sign on it? I did this several years ago and left it there over a weekend. On Monday the car had gone so I reported it as stolen to the police.
Turns out the garage had moved the car into their yard. Eventually they agreed to refund me all the money the saga had cost as I said I would keep parking in front of their premises every day with the notice on the car.
The notice was large, an old door, and a simple statement of the facts plus a list of the names the garage owner had used in the past.1 -
Nice! Unfortunately there isn't really anyway to park at this place and its set back a bit so not many would see. I love the idea of it though.0

Name and shame, this may help others avoid losing out to this bottom feeder.1
