Barclaycard reluctant to handle Section 75 claims!

I have been trying to get a refund on a Holiday Extras payment for more than £100 paid through my Barclaycard. They have been so slow to deal with this and keep fobbing me off. They promise speedy action but the reality is VERY different. Anyone else had similar problems?

    S75 is never going to be speedy. Especially given Covid 19 and the chaos it has caused to the travel industry.
    Even straight forward chargebacks were taking up to 8 weeks to action at one point.

    The pandemic has caused unprecedented problems for travel firms and there are millions of people trying to reclaim money they are owed. Banks and credit card companies have been caught up in that. 

    Barclaycard has been particularly bad at dealing with claims. I first contacted them in late March and received a temporary credit last week, 4 months later and that's for a chargeback not a section 75. 

    I've never been keen on Amex, with my only experience being a Barclaycard issued cashback one. They've been issuing temporary credit within a few days in many cases however and once the dust settles I intend to apply for one.

    They have now started to. I suggest she joins the "Holiday Extras Refunds - Let's Work Together" group on Facebook for guidance.

    This is a time when one must have some sympathy with the credit card issuers who are simply not set up to deal with thousands of refunds. The people who are supposed to refund you are Holiday Extras. The credit card issuers are intended to be a minor back-up system that has never been set up to deal with large scale refunds.
  • Thousands? Probably in the high hundreds of thousands if not millions.
  • S75 may take longer as the money comes from the bank (barclaycard) rather than the person/company you paid, with chargeback it’s the bank of the company the money comes from. Could explain the delay?

    No
    It is the pure number of cases to deal with. Barclaycard have something over 10 Million customers. Imagine 1 in 10 customers with a problem due to Covid. Then add that on top of the normal case load, which was already inflated by FlyBe collapse. Same team will deal with both Chargebacks & S75 in the 1st instance taking calls
    Odds on S75 teams is not a large one either. Even in good times S75 can take 6 months or more in some cases even longer.
    Even simple chargebacks were running weeks behind due to sheer number of cases.
