A friend of mine is going through the redundancy consultation process with a final meeting next week, but they've been contacted by a colleague wishing them well for the future. It seems a senior manager mentioned my friend was being made redundant, this has since been confirmed by HR. Does this breach in confidentiality break any HR laws?

It is not professional but lets be honest nothing travels faster then office gossip.

Although it does raise questions about how genuine the consultation is.  If they already announced the outcome, how realistic is consideration of alternative to redundancy?

    I don't get it. What's the problem?

It hardly strikes as a professional outfit, does it?

What would your friend be wanting to achieve by pursuing this line of enquiry?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
