New Job

Hi,

I am currently in the process of getting a new job and have interviews coming up.

I live in London but am looking to move to Bristol as this job will really start my career.

I will be renting a flat but my worry is should I be moving job incase a second wave hits? I will be in the flat and won't be able to afford the rent AND won't be eligable for support if this was to happen as I would of only been there a little while.

Any advice would really help as I am stuck and this job will really help my future career.

Thank you

If a second wave does hit (chances of it happening at least by this winter seem high) then is the type of job you do likely to be at risk? If so then I would think twice before relocating. You mention you will have to pay rent that you can't afford (if you lose your job), do you not pay rent where you are now?

All the best with whatever you do decide to do. Seems like a real dilemma.
  • It would be with a college?

Sounds like a secure role but again I would have needed to work there for X amount if months to receive government help?

If there is a 2nd wave nobody knows what government support will be available and what the criteria will be.

Its is a tough decision and one that faces many, It would depend upon factors such as how long you have been with your current employer and what your notice is vs your new role, probation and potentially a lower notice period and the risk you are prepared to take.  The only real advice is one that may not be feasible but you (everyone) really does need to have a minimum of three months cover (savings) I realise that this is almost impossible for many and therefore not that helpful particularity now, but it is fundamental to piece of mind in situations like this and may be something you can build up over the first few months in Bristol.  I wish you luck!

If the move to Bristol is going to kick-start you career, you need to make the move.  Otherwise, you will be kicking yourself for ever more and wondering "what if..."
