You all seem to be missing the point.
Yes i should have taken it back.
Yes i should not have waited the 2 months .
yada yada yada.
I am only asking about the fact that the main dealer had the car to check over on numerous occasions and told me that nothing was wrong. so i carried on using the vehicle. Now i fond out as simple as shaking the steering wheel the rack is knackered.
Hindsight is a great thing . Yes i quite often take specialist car dealers at their word !. My Bad.. I know i should of , could of would of but didn't .
Yes they will fix it as it is under warranty but THEY HAVE FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM !!
that's all.

I get that the comments on what should have been done don't assist with what to do now.
Are you now saying that the supplying dealer has accepted it is a steering rack fault and will repair under warranty? If so, despite all the frustrations of the year you've had the car, let the BMW dealer do the fix and all should be well. Just don't let them fob you off with further delay.0 -
No They have not yet replied to my email... as it stands nothing is getting fixed or repaired or anything. I wanted to come on here for advice of how to handle it now moving forward, and wanted everyone to know the background. I only mailed them late friday afternoon so i did not expect a reply yet. Monday or Tuesday at the latest.0

Is the warranty from the dealer or manufacturer backed?0

It’s quite common for a customer to go out on a test drive with a technician to point out faults etc. Granted at this time that may not be possible but you could both wear masks. I’d speak to BMW UK0

It is also quite common for a customer to test drive a used car before buying, but this one didn't.
It is also quite common for a customer to turn straight back round if they bought a £28k car and it is obviously faulty on collection, but this one didn't.
It is not common to let a whole year pass before sorting a problem on an expensive purchase, but this one did.3 -
Update:-
Main Dealer dropped of a courtesy car to me tonight and I took the specialist mechanic out a drive and showed him the noise and car driving erratically. He will take it to workshop tomorrow and investigate the steering rack and see what else he can find. He was a bit concerned as to why the other mechanics could not hear anything or notice the way it handled on the road , but they only drove around the town where the main dealership is .The manager will be in touch with a solution as soon as they have worked it all out.
I will let you know what they say.

You have only just mentioned the "driving erratically" in your last post, if that had been the issue since you took delivery you should have dumped it back at the dealer immediately.2

The only thing erratic in this saga is the driver's story...No free lunch, and no free laptop2
