I'm about to change my up and over door to a roller shutter   Is there any advantage to paying extra either a Safety Edge or an Oxygen Electric Operator with Pulse to open and close.

Is this for commercial use or private?
Are you likely to close the door while either you or you car are under the door? Safety Edge I believe is a Building Regs requirement.
    Is security a issue?
Not sure what an Oxygen Electric Operator with Pulse  is.
I've recently odered a roller door after doing research and gone for a SWS Seceuroglide door (no I don't work for them!) which seem to combine quality with security with reliabiliy/warranty.
There are cheaper options, but if you're spending out on an auto roller, it's worth getting a decent one, not a cheap option.

if you change it for a roller door you have to look after it. they will sell you a service plan. you dont need it. keep the runners and rollers lubed with white grease twice a year, you should be fine.
  • Thanks for your responses.  It's for a private dwelling.  As it's an integral garage I figured a roller door type would be more draught proof.  I don't currently use the garage for the car but that's not to say I won't in the future.  I'm using a recommended local firm.

My last house I had 2x  'SWS Seceuroglide' doors fitted to my detached garage and have to say they were very very good, never had an issue with them so would recommend.  As you mention it's an integral garage, presumably with a room above, then check that you have sufficient headroom to accommodate the roller door and mechanism.  From memory you need around a foot of headroom for rollers.

As I've moved house now i'm the market for new doors again but this time I'm going with insulated sectional doors by 'Hormann'.  More expensive but our main bedroom is above our double garage so I need doors with better insulation than a roller door can offer.  Aside from the lack of headroom which is also an issue with a roller, a roller door will
undoubtedly be draughtproof but I would ignore the fact they state the slats are insulated as tbh the slats are thin so the insulation benefit is not that great.
