Hi,
We are due to fly out on the 6th August, as Travel Republic have ignored all messages we contacted the hotel ourselves....  it will be closed when we are due to fly .. there is talk of being transferred to a sister hotel ..... which we don't want to go to ... we didn't pay the balance as they are not responding .. thinking they would then answer our messages ... nope .. all they have done is send an email threatening to cancel the holiday and charge us for the pleasure ?...... I have even left a copy of the email on twitter thinking that might get them to contact us ... but still .. nothing  What should we do? Can anyone advise .. any help would be greatly appreciated

If you check the terms and conditions you will probably find that they can do this and, as long as it is in the same resort and is the same or higher standard, it is classed as a minor change

If the hotel you booked is closed and they find another one in the same resort, with the same star rating and the same main features, then it'll be regarded as an insignificant change to the package and so you wouldn't be entitled to a refund should you choose not to go.  If you fail to make the balance payment, this may be treated as you cancelling too, and you'd be liable for the cancellation charges defined in the Ts & Cs, which are likely to be substantially more than the deposit, so again not a good idea.

Therefore you need to keep trying to contact them to ascertain how to proceed, difficult though it may be....

If you haven't paid the balance due then you've effectively cancelled your booking. How long ago was it due? 6th August isn't far away.
  • You are in danger of losing whatever the terms and conditions dictate if you don't pay the balance.    You have agreed to pay them on a certain date and they don't have to answer your email before it is paid so be careful you don't lose the lot.   It doesn't seem right but that's how it is with so many people to get to.

As for going to a sister hotel, Agree with Caz, this seems pretty standard.   Which company and what country/resort?    They should at least be telling you where you are going to!    Keep checking your account section with them to see if they update that rather than send you an individual email.
