Loganair Refund

We have two return flights booked from Aberdeen to Belfast with Loganair on 14 Aug. On 8 Jul, we received two emails from Loganair informing us of schedule changes.  The first related to the outward trip, amending the departure time from 15:00 to 09:50.  The second related to the return trip, amending the departure time from 12:30 to 12:15.  However, not highlighted in any particular way, there was also a change to the return flight date from Sun 16 to Mon 17 Aug – effectively a 24 hour delay.  Obviously an extra 24 hours stranded in Belfast would incur additional expenses for food and overnight accommodation, plus my partner would have to request an extra day's leave from work.  The return flight was not labelled as 'Cancelled', merely as 'Changed', presumably so that Loganair could avoid paying refunds for a flight cancellation?  The note in their email states, “As the alternative flight offered is deemed a reasonable alternative in this instance you are not entitled to a refund on your booking.”  Loganair are only offering flight date changes with no fee, or placing tickets on hold for up to a year.  I have emailed Loganair twice requesting a refund but they have failed to even acknowledge receipt, let alone reply to me.  I have the following unanswered questions:
Is an 'alternative flight' 24 hours later not classed as a cancellation & reschedule?
Are Loganair acting legally by stating that we are not entitled to a refund in this case?
If not a refund, are we entitled to delay compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004?

  • I would say a flight change of a day is very much a significant change and at the least you should be able to claim a refund.   I know everyone is struggling and trying to opt out of paying money back but there are still rules to follow.   Check what the t's and c's say about amendment then have a look at the regulations act.  They will quote it somewhere on there am sure.

I had a flight by Loganair from Inverness to Birmingham moved from Sunday 25th October to Monday 26th October - informed by e-mail the other day.

The e-mail clearly stated that if your flight had changed Day you could ring up and ask for a refund.

I did this , got through in five minutes and money on it's way back (up to 14 Days)
