Santander Cheque Deposit Backlog

5 weeks ago I deposited 4 cheques using the post office. They still haven't cleared. Santander say there is a heavy delay and massive backlog of cheques paid in using the post office, with the average taking 4 weeks to clear.
They advise that they can't check if they have my cheques. The lady in the post office says it would have been hand delivered (therefore not lost in the post).
Has anyone else had a problem, if so, how long was your wait?

Hand delivered just means a bag passed to their courier who then drops them off at a central processing unit.0

Yes I also deposited 2 Cheques in the post office for Santander Account on the 27th June . Telephoned Santander several times each time a different office answers Liverpool ,Glasgow promise to return a call or email. To date (31/7/20) no one as replied or sent email as to what is going on or mention a backlog due to them. Checked with Post Office they were very helpful and they assured me the Cheques were sent with others the same day0

It’s been a few years since I’ve dealt with cheques at work but the clearers used to send their cheques to one of several clearing centres. From memory one of those was somewhere like Leicester but I’m more than prepared to be wrong on the city. I dare say that social distancing rules have impacted it a fair bit but several weeks delay is unacceptable.0

I know its being wise after the event, but First Direct allow cheques to be deposited by means of scanned image. I believe I was one of the last ones to open such an account before they stopped accepting new current account applications. The system has worked fine for me and is very simple to use. It's possible that the city Ballard is referring to is Bradford and the "Leicester" may have been in mind when the Bank was Alliance & Leicester. In those days, and before with Girobank, customers had pre printed brown envellopes address to Bootle, GIROAA. I think it then became Nelson Street, Bradford0

iSantander telephoned today to say they have not been able to find cheques with in 25 daysI sent via the Post Office and must now presume they are Lost! and to go back to the cheque issuer to obtain a replacement. Has anyone else been told the same? is this just an excuse and they are just getting rid of there backlog by other means!0
