Which can be overridden to allow you to make larger payments. Usually means that once the larger amount has gone through you can't use the card again that day, other than get cash from ATM.MK_Paul said:
I checked with the bank and they had a £10k limit for card transactions.jonesMUFCforever said:To the OP - can I just add something for future reference?
You said that you paid a deposit using a debit card but had to pay the balance using a bank transfer because the limit on your card was not enough? With a debit card the limit is normally your account balance (plus any agreed o/d facility).
Paying anybody with a bank transfer when they take cards should be a no no IMO.
Although in your case here it seems that the garage will refund you - had there been a dispute - there is no way you could have asked your bank to recall the final payment.
Bank should have told you that.Life in the slow lane2 -
Is that per transaction or per day? I can put through many £10,000 card transactions to the same payee on the same day one after the other. I just wondered if you had misunderstood the bank.MK_Paul said:

Bank should have told you that.Bank simply said, when asked if I could make the purchase on the card or would it have to be a transfer...
”It has to be a transfer. There is a £10k limit on the card”
It was a web chat support question.
Should this come around again I’ll push on the double transaction route/workaround.0 -
This sounds like the dealer has resolved very amicably and the OP can take the refund and move on.MK_Paul said:the dealer have offered compensation to keep it or a return/refund.
Probably not worth trying to pursue for time and disruption (even though there was clearly some) - the OP has still got the discount on the charge point that can be "banked".
Good luck to the OP in sourcing the car actually what he requires.
Given that the OP says the car he requires is harder to come by, is there an option to negotiate a deal on a new car that has the correct spec? The garage may be keen to show some goodwill. I have no information about how much difference there is in the cost of the used car and a new one as to whether that is even nearly viable.1 -
So, the dealer arranged for me to drop the car with one of their guys at a local dealership under the same group banner. So that’s done.
Frustratingly they have said it could be 5-7 working days before I get my refund, which seems purely systematic and hugely unfair, but there seems to be no way to speed that up, and I have no issues with regards trusting it will eventually arrive.0 -
Part of the delay is down to the banks0

My bank sent them the money fast enough.
Still waiting on the refund, I have chased, it’s a frustratingly long time to be so out of pocket!0
