Flight Cancellation

Easy Jet have just cancelled my son and his girlfriends flights to Cyprus where I live with my wife.  We were going to then go to Greece where we had booked an all inclusive hotel as part of the holiday.  Can I claim the costs of this part of my holiday back from Easy Jet.  It would include airport parking, Ryan Air flights from Paphos to Thessalonika and the hotel.

Did you books the flights seperately or as part of a package?

Unless you have booked with Easyjet you have no claim with them.
At present Cyprus does not allow entry to people coming from UK.
Was his holiday to Greece booked separately from his flight to Cyprus or is it one booking?
Can he get a flight direct to Greece and meet you there assuming    the holiday in Greece is still possible?
  • I paid for the EJ flights and the onward RA flights and hotel using my CC.  AS they cannot get to Cyprus can I claim it all on my credit card.

Credit card will come into play if the flights were not operating / hotel closed etc. If everything is open/operating and card claim would fail and you should be speaking to your travel insurance

I could be wrong but wouldn't see OP having any claim on their insurance, as there's presumably nothing stopping them from going on the Greece trip, even if the others couldn't make it.  Any claim for son and girlfriend not being able to make it to Greece would need to be on their insurance rather than OP's, even though OP paid for the trip.
  • Agree with eskbanker.   Easy jet should refund the cost of cancelled flights to Cyprus on to the card it was booked on.    If there is nothing stopping flights from Cyprus to Greece then nobody will refund anyone.    Unless your son has insurance in his name,  I doubt you would be able to claim on your insurance for him not being able to fly to Greece with you.  Did  he and his partner take out insurance at time of booking?  He would need to check what he is covered for.

Great idea that they rebook flights direct to Greece.  That would be a good solution if all going ahead there?
  • Hi, can anyone advise what our rights are here? Booked Air Malta flight from Geneva to Malta through lastminute.com for 15 August 2020 and then Malta to London (home) through Opodo for 23 August 2020. Yesterday Air Malta cancelled the Geneva - Malta flight which was direct and 2.5 hours. Alternatives available at 22 days away from date of travel are all way more expensive and a lot longer (e.g. 16 hours!) as no-one else flies direct. I don't see how we can get from Geneva to Malta, so won't be able to take the flight home from Malta to London. This was all booked in early February 2020 before we were aware that the virus I'd vaguely heard about was going to become a pandemic. Travel insurance (Nationwide FlexPlus account) says we're not covered because FCO advice is that it's OK to travel and (happily) no medical certs stating don't travel. I know the flights were booked with different agents and are totally separate bookings, but it's the same airline, and it's the airline who has cancelled on us. I'd really like to know what our rights are in this case. Thanks.

As you say you have completely separate unconnected contracts. from their website - "Normal ticketing conditions will apply to customers who wish to change their travel plans if their flight is scheduled to operate normally."

  • Does anyone have a contact number  for lastminute.com

  • Our British Airways flights to Canada in September were cancelled by British Airways and we received a refund. However, we had associated bookings of (a) hotel in Quebec and (b) Flight from Quebec to Vancouver. These were booked independently through separate agents. Canada is currently barring entry to UK Nationals. We want a refund rather than postponement  as accompanying other couple can't go in future. Travel Insurance firm advises first seeking refund from suppliers or take up any deferred options. How can I best get a refund under this scenario ?
