Over 70's Motorhome driver

My brother in law has a hymer motorhome. He came to renew his license during lockdown. Has booked to come & see us in his car. Needs to renew his license in order to visit us. If he renews his driving license he loses the C1 category which allows him to drive the motorhome. He would then need to retake his test & medical. He has tried contacting DVLA for a form for weeks now. They say there are no forms online. I know about Covid & backlogs but surely one form on line would solve this?? Can't believe this isn't on line. Has anyone come across any forms on line in order for him to do this?

No test required (if he already has a C1 licence), just a D4 Medical Form. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/d4-medical-examiner-report-for-a-lorry-or-bus-driving-licence

I've got a funny feeling that currently, because of Covid-19, you wont need to complete the D4 medical form but you will need to apply for your C1 entitlement via the D47P or D2 (I'm not exactly sure which one)

Yes, the old 7.5t category drops off at 70yo renewal without a medical, and has done for many years.
Yes, the current situation is going to cause a lot of these edge-case shenanigans.

Might it be easier for him to do what a lot of ~70yo motorhomers do, and change to a sub-3.5t one...?

I'm all for it, in fact I believe they should have to conform to the same medical requirements as LGV drivers have to because they're the same size as a 17-32 tonne rigid lorry even if they're plated for a lighter weight. So that'd be a 5 yearly test from 45-65 then every year from age 65 onwards.
