NOWtv and LG's

Had a warning on both our LG TVs that the NOWtv app will no longer be available from August 24th 2020. Looking into this it appears this is because of the Netcast OS platform no longer being supported.
This is what I hate about SmartTVs. Once the other 3rd party streaming services decide they no longer want to support the OS on a TV, you're forced into buying their USB stick. So not only do we pay monthly already and watch on apps that were free. We now have to fork out £60 for sticks for both TVs as well as continuing to pay the monthly fee.
However, I've been onto NOWtv support who are sending us a NOWtv USB stick for free, because I said with the monthly fee and costs of the stick its just not worth it anymore and we'll look to cancel. All well and good but they are only sending one. I said we have two TVs so only one person can watch at a time now yet we still have to pay the same monthly fee. Was told there are other devices that support it. But that isn't the point. The LG TVs were purchased specifically because they both supported the app for free, now they don't. So we still now need to fork out £30 for a NOWtv USB stick.
We're going to wait for the stick to arrive then cancel the subscription.
I don't condon piracy but do these Streaming services and studios not realise THIS is the exact reason why people turn to it.

You are using a 6 year old OS. You are lucky it has gone on this long.LD TV's are the best currently becuase of web os. Being a real platform, unlike the former it is likely to be supported longer. (the goole android devices may be slightly better, sony I think, but sony have a habnit of never updateing and old android can get old quick).Howver expecting a TV manufacturer to supoport a TV beyond 2years is unrealistic.Always better to get a external option and pretend the TV does not have anything internal. And unless something has changed now tv devices are just hobbled roku's that cant install any app that sky does not approve of (pretty much everything).Tv's are so chep these days. Expect to have an external box like you always had to. Anything else is just a bonus.0

Seems harsh to 'punish' NOWtv - it's LG that are stopping support - NOWTv seem to have offered you something they didn't need to for free, and if you cancel, what use is the free stick! I gave up the smart TV malarkey because of this issue - for the sake of £20, Get a Roku stick or box which has NOWTv on - good kit and reasonably priced1

Currys were selling Now TV sticks that included a month of Entertainment and Films for £30. Buy one of those, cancel your monthly sub, activate the new sticks to use the free month and then go back to your old subscription. That should reduce the costs a bit. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
