morning all
I desperately need advice.
I have been very ill and mostly bedbound since before the pandemic. I have been trying to move to safer accommodation because I'm to unwell to cope with stairs and sadly my 12yo cares for me alot me than I'd like tbh. I kept getting turned down for properties by agents and couldn't understand why until I did a clearscore check and found a CCJ on my name from Northampton. It was added in February apparently. I live in Wales. I've never even been to Northampton. Or to court. Or heard anything about this business. I have been trying to get in contact for weeks via phone and email to this court but I got cut off several times and had no reply to my email. Its not even a lot of money (£197)
I've been looking at the reviews and many people are suggesting to come her for help.
Please. I'm not sure what to do.
Could someone give me advice.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of time, any guidance is greatly appreciated 🙏

You don't need to have ever been to Northampton. That's just where the CCJs are issued from.
Are there any defaulted debts on your credit files (check all of them)? If not, you'll need to keep trying the court.0 -
Hi,Courts, like everywhere else, are running a backlog at present, and are short staffed as well, email is usually your best bet.Northampton is just the bulk clearing centre for court claims in the UK, usually these things turn out to be parking tickets, or something of that nature, usual reason why you did not recieve the court papers is that you may have moved recently, and papers went to an old address the creditor had on file.Try and think of anything this could be, try trust online, it may tell you more there, but best bet is keep trying with the court.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hello,
I recently found a CCJ on my credit score (that I was unaware of!) and this is what I did
1. signed up for an Equifax account. The first month is free and after that it’s around £17 so just cancel once you have used it
2. looked at my credit report and go on ‘court information’.
3. On there I saw information including the court name ‘business centre’ and a reference number.
4. Googled the number for the court and had the reference number ready and the amount that was on my CCJ. It was the court that explained that mine was an over payment from a job and the address they had was a uni address (that I only lived in for 8 months so didn’t get any letters). They also gave me the number of the solicitors who know owned the debt and a reference number.
5. From that, I rang the solicitors and paid it in full. It’s still pending in my account at the moment.
It took two attempts to get through to the court( rang one after the other) and first time for solicitors.
I hope this helps you0 -

Was that your full intentions?0 -
Another option would have been to apply for a set-aside based on the fact you'd not received any of the paperwork in order to pay in a timely manner originally. On doing so that would have reset the position to just before getting the CCJ - in that you would still owe the money, but the creditor would then have to apply for another CCJ if you then didn't come to an agreement. As it stands, your CCJ will be marked as satisfied - and will remain on your credit file for 6 years from the date it was granted. Satisfied CCJ's are better than unsatisfied CCJ's - but no CCJ's is even better. As time passes, if it's the only blemish on your record, the effect will reduce, but may still hinder you in terms of a mortgage application.0
