The bankrupt become liable again on 1 April when the new council tax bill for the year is done. The person now liable will be eligible for the single person discount for the rest of the council tax year however you should check with the council it still isn't being applied from 1 April 2021.This is the same with water rates as they are billing your for future usage up until the bill period ends - if you're on a meter the bill up until the date of your BR goes in to the BR. With rates its for the period they have billed you for. So if they have issued a bill covering the year up until next March like council tax that would go in.0

Yes you're right you do not have to pay however you should make your case examiner aware of this as your circumstances have changed. You could say that you'd like to keep a payment going so you have it covered from next year. It's up to your examiner, have they set an IPA?

I have a council tax IPA that’s all and that is until march. I have to pay £30
and my council tax was £98.Would this just be until March too so not a 3 year IPA? Thanks0 -
Just found this for United utilities insolvency policy.“Charges will be apportioned on a daily basis if you enter into any formal insolvency procedure.Any apportioned charges after the insolvency date will be payable by the occupier of the premises in question and fall due on the next day of occupation after the insolvency date. Any such apportioned charges will not fall within the insolvency procedure. The charges will be calculated according to the basis of charge that was applicable on the insolvency date”
does this mean I should be billed again for the rates dated from after bankruptcy date to end of year. I’ve tried speaking to them but the agent doesn’t seem to be able to give me clear information. I don’t want to contact the OR and then my bill comes next week. I might wait until I actually have a direct debit not go out and then see if have heard anything.1 -
Your council tax for the year should all be included in your BR there shouldn't be an IPA (Income Payment Agreement) for just one debt. Any council tax arrears before your BR are included. An IPA is set during your BR when you are undischarged to commence after you've been discharged.Your water rates for the year are included until March 31 2021 as they have billed you until that date. It is only if you are on a water meter that they can bill you after BR. Raise a complaint with United Utilities and contact your OR with the United Utilities bill up to March 31 2021 and they should tell you that is included.Bankruptcy covers all debts that are due on the date of your bankruptcy.0

Sorry I’m probably using the incorrect terminology. By council tax IPA I mean the OR said as I’m not paying council tax until next year I have to pay £30 per month until end of this tax year. So I have an ipa agreement that says it’s is only valid during the council tax holiday.
The agent told me I have £300 to pay. 10 months @ £30 I’m two payments in so far1 -
Ah ok. I have done a bit of digging about your water rates as well and I'm sorry to say United Utilities are within their rights to bill from the day after your BR until the end of the bill period. I'm sorry I was using an older way of managing water rates in bankruptcy.1

Don’t be apologising, the people I’ve spoken to don’t seem to know if I’m being charged or not, it changes each time and they work for United utilities.I’m happy to continue paying to be honest as then it means everything stays as it is. I’m trying really hard to keep my income etc the same so that I don’t have to redo the SOA for the examiner.
ill give it a week and see if I get any post or emails about my account from UU
thanks for your help2
