Pet insurance recommendations

Hi all,

I need to arrange some pet insurance for my new puppy as my complimentary one is running out in a couple of weeks.

I've been told to get one that covers the pet for the 'life of illness' rather than 12 months or a fixed financial amount.

So far I've not had much luck finding one like that so has anyone here got anything similar?

Cheers,
Indy

Petplan, not the cheapest but we have never had the slightest issue with them paying out claims.

  • Eeek, PetPlan comes to £41.67 per month... a bit more than I was expecting to pay!

Still, you did give me forewarning!

Hiya, Snap we also have a new puppy :j . Our Golden Retriever is now 3 mths old. I looked around the web for insurance. Most came back with £22 per month. When I did mine I was lucky to be recomended to Tesco, as it was pet week they were offering 1/2 price insurance @£11 per month for the first year. We went with that as next year will do the looking around again!
You could see what Tesco are offering or Sainsbury's. I think the kennel club do for life treatments but of course it is in the larger cost.
Good Luck and keep us posted.....Julie
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Just checked with M&S, they have a lifetime ilness cover too where they pay upto £7000 per year and their policy comes to £12.99!

Either the mother of all bargains or Im missing something vital??

I think it depends on size and bread of dog.

  • he's a little parsons jack russell terrier so i cant imagine he'd cost that much :)

think i'll goo for the M&S one, sems the best value so far, everyone else seems to cover for the first 12 months only.

im with petplan and only pay 13 a month for lifetime cover
  • I recommend M&S as they are for 'the life' of the illness/pet and have a no excess...

however i made my first claim back in May 07 and they have only just paid up...

But i still there good and i don't have to pay anything out to the vets, it goes direct

My Rottweiler pup(ish) is insured with NFU Mutual (National farmers union) and i pay £21 a month which covers me for £4000 per condition per YEAR for the lifetime of the animal.

I would easily put them at the top with Petplan for paying out and in the last year alone they paid out almost £1000 for my dog & the when the renewal came out it went down in price.
  • Thanks for the recommendations people, I'm leaning towards M&S but will check out NFU Mutual too.

    Indy.
