Options for self-funding quarantine in the UK.

Where can I self isolate on arrival in the UK?  I have decided to self-isolate before moving into a house with others to reduce risks to those with underlying conditions to a minimum. I am not concerned about government policy changes, I will self-isolate even if there is no legal responsibility to do so.  I can find no information about options for self-funding quarantine in the UK. Are there hotel's doing this, as they have done in New Zealand, Australia and elsewhere? Signposting to a relevant website or information from others who have done this would be appreciated.

I think there are hotels doing it but it only applies if a) you are coming in from a country not on the approved list, and b) if you fail to provide an address at the border. You are then taken to a hotel and you have to pay for your own stay.  I cant imaging the authorities have had to enforce it on many people at all tbh.

Personally I suspect you are being far too cautious given you are probably coming from a country with a lower infection rate than ours but hey, maybe just book a cottage in the middle of nowhere and take enough food for 2 weeks.
  • Does the government say that if you fly into X airport that you will stay at Y hotel?  If so, where can I find this information?

No they dont, I am going off the info that was going around at the time in the news about what happened to people who couldnt provide an address: that they would be put in a hotel (unspecified) at their own expense.

I suspect they have had to enforce this to barely anyone, though.
  • Thanks Bradders1983. I'll contact the British Embassy in my country and see what they have to say. It's odd there is nothing available when most other countries have this sort of information freely available. Hopefully, someone with some experience of being in this situation can help.

I’m not sure why you want to do it if the UK government isn’t mandating it.
They don’t provide quarantine centres in the UK. The person who is to quarantine has to provide an address where they will
go and the authorities may visit to check if they are there. I have my doubts that they are checking seeing as no fines have been issued.
If you really want to do it you’ll have to find your own accommodations. A hotel
may take you but you’ll have to organise a “contact free” checkin.
Personally I wouldn’t bother. Wear a N95/FFP3 mask on teh flight and while moving to your new house and that’s ample. Depending on where you’re coming from you may be surprised at how lax many Brits are about masks and social distancing now.
