reminder- changes to buyer protection on ebay

Although this is aimed at buyers it also affects sellers so worth a read;

just a quick update – from 3 September 2020, we’re making changes to our eBay Money Back Guarantee policy. Key changes below:

  • The time a seller has to respond to return requests or an eBay Money Back Guarantee (eMBG) claim will change from 8 calendar days to 3 business days.

  • Once a return is accepted, the time a buyer has to ship the item back to the seller will change from 14 calendar days to 10 business days.

    For me, Soolin's link came up on ebay with 'error retrieving message from server'. The following link was sent in an ebay email on the same topic:
    The essence of the message is exactly the same as Soolin has quoted in italics above.

    Another slap in the face from ebay for private sellers who also have a job (and so cannot always respond quickly).

    Although it will be tighter, three business days is not an impossible timescale no matter what your job.  Possibly it is better that matters are resolved fairly quickly rather than dragged out over a longer timescale.

    I think that if people can’t respond within 3 days then eBay is probably not a safe to sell, private sellers are treated exceptionally well compared to business sellers- and many of us business sellers work as well.

    What worries me is going somewhere remote on holiday, and one of the places we often stay is very remote and has extremely poor coverage , and missing a message. When I visit even at the moment I traipse half way up a mountain daily to check messages .
