Postgraduate Project Refund
I am currently an MSc student and was supposed to be undertaking a 12 week practical project from May to September (9-5pm Monday to Friday in the labs for 2/3 months) as part of my course, this was the main part of the course as the practical skills are what employers usually look for. Due to Covid-19 these projects have had to be cancelled and I am now doing a literature review from home instead. This cost of this semester is £2366, which we pay ourselves as the postgrad fees/loan is different to undergrad. We have said we don’t feel that we should have to pay the full amount as we are missing so much of what we were meant to be paying for, but have no had any luck, surely this comes under the law which says if a company cannot provide you with the service offered a refund/discount is needed? We will not be getting the practical experience anymore making more difficult for me to get jobs after this, we won’t be getting the same level of support anymore as we can only get help through email and we are not using university resources saving them money now. Would it be wrong for me not to pay for this semester or is there anything which shows legally they should give us at least a partial refund?

Well, if you do not pay the full tuition fee you will not get the degree.
The obvious suggestions are to seek help and advice from your own students' union and if necessary from the NUS nationally.
